    SM3D22: Changing rotation angle range

The SM3D22 motor has 100 degrees gear and rotating range. In this model it is not possible to extend the range any more than that. However, unsymmetrical range is possible (i.e. 40E/60W,...etc) and the factory already makes that kind of motors for the European market.

If you have an SM3D22 or SM3D12 motor that you want to change its rotation from 50E/50W to another unsymmetrical range, the work envolves opening the motor case (which will void the warranty BTW). So if you do it, it is at your own risk. We normally don't advice customers to open a motor and repair/change something, because of warranty. The work envolves shiftng the mechanical axis and other corrected factors on electronic board.

I haven't done that, but when I do it, I will share some pictures. If anyone has done it and want to chime here, that will be great.

I don't have that motor, but I'm curious about this. When this unsymmetrical range alteration is done, is the motor shaft still centered, with the bend down, when the motor is at it's zero position? Ie I don't know what it looks like inside, but I'm imagining a big semicircular gear attached to the motor shaft, driven by a small drive gear. If the engagement of this gear is just shifted, it seams like the bend in the motor shaft wouldn't be down when zeroed, and this is important. However if it a situation where the motor shaft's orientation re the big gear is changed, then the bend could still be down....... not sure I made that clear.

Anyway, it would be interesting to see pictures of this alteration when you do it. Should be interesting.

I would wait for a year until warranty expires, then I may try to open it up, to "shift the rotation axis", so, when it's zeroed, it points about 7 o'clock, if I want it to go more to east, or 5 o'clock, if you need it to go more to the west.
Have you tried to e-mail the manufacturer: support@sat-control.si?

Well, I guess no ones done it because you have to buy/install a replacement axis with the range you want i.e. 70W/30E and unless you have a pci card that can generate a custom string , sending it back to the factory in Slovenia is the only option to change the 6 degree shift to 0, short of also replacing the positioner board. Waiting on reply as to how much axis & positioner board cost.
