true south satellite question
1---- if you can't get the signal to your true south satellite can you choose another a few degrees west or east?
2---- if yes how many degrees west or east can you choose the on the next satellite
im using the crazy sm3d12 twinhan 102g primestar oval dish all works so far.

you generally have to use the closest to true south.. but when I aim the motor, the best way to make it track accurately, I pull in the westernmost satellite and then the easternmost reachable satellite. This almost guarentees to track perfectly all the way through. First pointing to the the true south sat is getting you "in the ballpark" but you wont quite be there yet until you get the western and easternmost.

well, if you wont get any improvement of quality no matter if the cable is 300 feet or 5 feet for example. You will get a better signal if you have better cable but most of the time it's quality that counts.

DruzeTito ,,,
Can you please direct me to the Lyngsat website or any related site/sites that has/have westenmost satellites and easternmost satellites ... I would like to have it as a FUTURE setup reference for my PanSat M900 motorized system { as in the max of satellites from the West and max satellites from East }
Thanks in advance !!!

well westernmost and easternmost depends on your location, but within the U.S., generally the western most usable for FTA Ku signals is Galaxy 10R... the easternmost depends, but if you are on the eastern half of the US you can use Telstar 12 @ 15 west for your easternmost sat. Again, find out your longitude, then use that value and lyngsat.com to determine which satellites you can pull in and whether their beams cover your general area.

I just found these pages ---
http://www.sadoun.com/Sat/Satellites/Satellite-List.htm
WEST Satellites …
http://www.lyngsat.com/europe.html
East SATELLITES …
I am on West Coast California so ...
Is 148 degree W ( EchoStar1 ; 2 ) is my Westernmost Satellite ?
Is 72 degree E ( Pas 4 ) is my Easternmost Satellite ?
and when talking motor elavation ... does it mean it talks about the skew of the rotor ?
Thanks for your reply ,,,
Benny ...

oh youre lucky to live in west coast Cali. One day I want to live there.
Anyway, yes, those echostars will be your most western satellites reachable.. but they do not have any FTA and they are also not compatible with a linear KU LNB. So Intelsat 7 @ 129 would be your westernmost usuable sat followed by Galaxy 10R. For your easternmost you have to expirment to see which one you can receive. Try to get Cubavision on PAS 9 and if you can get that then keep going east. There's not much FTA on the atlantic side but a few channels here and there.
