Could someone tell me what's going on with this installation

    Tools:
    Receiver: CoolSat 4000Pro
    Motor: SM3D12
    Dish: 31” Fortec Star offset
    LNB: KU Band Universal LNBF

    Zip: 02125
    Latitude: 42.3 N
    Longitude: 71.1 W
    Magnetic Deviation is -16.23
    True south: 196
So since my Longitude: 71.1 W, and the closest true south satellite is Nahuel 1 at 71.8°W (could someone confirm this please?)

I set the Motor Latitude which is 42 and Dish Elevation to 40.0 from the table on the SM3D12 manual.
I am not so sure if I’ve found the right TRUE SOUTH but I can’t get any signal and quality at all. Anyone in here have successfully installed this SM3D12 Motor please give me some help. Besides that, I don’t know if I am missing something here for this installation.

    Thank you in advance,
    Tony

    your numbers look OK.
Yes, that is your closest sat highest point in sat arc.

I assume you've set the motor to 0, then lined up everything to 196 on the compass.
Then select Nahuel1 on the list and have the motor drive there.
Make sure you are on active transponder for that sat (I cant get that one at my location due to trees) but lyngsat shows a bunch of them.

    http://www.lyngsat.com/nahuel1.html

maybe someone else familiar with Nahuel1 can comment on whats strong on that sat to pick in order to try to find the signal...

Other than that, it's keep trying in baby steps. I'm not famaliar with coolsat box to help with how to set that thing up.

Tony i hope you dont get mad if i post in your thread but i assumed i have a close problem to yours i didnt want to start a new one.

    Anyway, my problem is this:

    Tools:
    Receiver: Traxis 2500
    Motor: SM3D12
    Dish: 31” winegard
    LNB: KU Band Universal LNBF

    Zip: 40291
    Latitude: 38.2 N
    Longitude: 85.8 W
    Magnetic Deviation is +4.00
    true south = 184
so what would be my closest sat?
Also, i cant seem to find how to properly operate the motor from the remote. what i do is I select a sat (intelsat5 for example) and the motor goes all the way to the farthest point in the east. is that normal?
    please please help :mozilla_cry:

The "most south" sat is the one highest in the arc for your location.
It's the one closest to the value for your longitude.

Regarding the motor, are you using USALS? or Diseqc 1.2?

Is the program code (firmware) in the box up to date? (some of the early Fortec Ultra's had trouble with the 312 motor until an updated firmware was released...)

Until the motor figures out where it's supposed to be, it will in fact move all the way to the left, (so it knows where it is... ) then move back to where the box is telling it to point to. It will do that, especially if the power is removed from it and it gets itself out of sync. But it should not do that each time...

see if you box has an option to use diseqc 1.3 or USALS.
Much easier to work with than 1.2

Sorry cant help with that receiver. My experience is with Fortec stuff for the most part.

Just to get you guys updated. After hours of trying.....I could not get any signal/quality with the setup. I tried the setup with my Ariza500 first and then with a CoolSat 4000 but still did not get any luck at all.

    vndss:

my suggestion now is to not use the motor, and see if you can install your system as stationary dish only.

This will accomplish a couple things -

    1. you can get used to how touchy and particular pointing these FTA dishes can be,

    2. Get used to how your box displays transponders and signal levels.

Use this location to calculate your dish setting parameters:

    http://www.sadoun.com/Sat/Installati...Calculator.htm

Once you find that your can get some signal levels & quality on a fixed setup, then add the motor.

One thing that seemed to help one of the other guys that was having trouble, instead of using "Universal 1" as the LNB type, he changed the box settings to STD (standard) and began to see some signal reception.

    and

Make sure you are on the IF INPUT on the back of the box (not ANTENNA IN)
