First Timer

You know that I like to come to you once a while for some suggestions and input.

I am developing a new page for our website that has the "New User" in focus.

From the support inquiry emails we get from our website new visitors, there is a trend evolving. Most are new customers who have not experienced a satellite system before and don't know what to order.

I want the new pages to cater to these visitors. It will be called

"FIRST-TIMERS GUIDE"

• What to Expect
• What to order
• Beginner Techie

Your input and suggestions are welcome.

definition for FTA terms would be nice.I know when I first started out had to do a lot of searching just to figure out what was being talked about.

Adding to Rainman, with pics. Things like the difference between a lnb and a lnbf. Not all the technical doings just the basics of what makes them different. I believe your site has in place the required for beginners but as I have stated before the grouping of products and some of the navigation would need redesigned.

From a total know nothing perspective your site the way it presently is grouped (products) is overwhelming. I think a beginner ends up with "Where do I begin?" I think straight across comparrisons of systems would be nice. Again from the beginner mentality "Why buy a 90cm dish when the 80cm is cheaper?" Perhaps showing on a graph percentage of signal trapping ability balanced against threshold.

Add a link (in case I missed it) to the install info pages that would open a seperate window (or tab in IE7) from where you sell the system or item. So if I am looking at a M1 system I can click a link that would show me straight across comparrison of all the versions of the system and another link taking me to install instructions. With this I feel (1) I am better informed as to what I am purchasing (potentially reducing customer complaints) and (2) I feel I have a clearer understanding of what is involved with installing the system. When I exit these additional windows / tabs I am right back where I was. The sales page for the M1.

V. good points. Keep 'em coming. I like these ideas and agree with you on most. As some of you know, I have implemented a lot of the ideas posted before.

I think that is part of what makes you successful Sadoun. Having the ability to listen when you are the end of the chain is very important IMHO and many lose sight of that. It seems to happen to about everyone as their knowledge grows. You seem to have your thumb on what is desired both through watching sales and through watching requests. Staying ahead of that is also very important.
