My First Order - Small eBay Purchase from Sadoun
As some of you know, I'm slowly preparing for my first FTA install. As part of the prep, I need to sink a pole in the ground, and thought I should get myself an angle finder like what is recommended at sadoun.com - gotta get that thing plumb, right?
I checked out Sadoun's eBay auctions yesterday, saw that they had the Johnson 700 Magnetic Angle Locator (of course), and went ahead and did a Buy It Now, and paid via PayPal. This was at about 12:30 on Wednesday.
The box showed up on my desk at work at 11:30 today, Thursday.
Yeah, that fast.
Truly impressive - thanks Sadoun!

OK, there is one thing, I want to wa rn you about this Johnson's angle meter:
I t MAY BE OFF.
Probably, it's odd, but mine was. I did installation in April, when my black shingle roof was hot...
I could not get my mast plumb from all the sides.
And, as for newbie, it took me an hour to figure out(and to scorch), the angle metter is off by 2 degrees: so when it's perfect vertically aligned , it shows 2º.
Maybe I will post a picture later, but still, before using, test it with a regular bubble level. If you know the error is 2º, you still can use this tool successfully

Yeah, with any angle meter or level, it's a good idea to check it in two directions. Like put it on a flat surface, and see what it reads, then turn it 180, and see what it reads. Should be the same, reading in the other direction. Like if it says 5 degrees the first time, it should be 5 deg in the other direction when you reverse it. If the meter is off they won't be the same. Same for a regular bubble level. I have a level with an adjustable bubble, and you can use this technique to calibrate it.

Bubble level is the only way to go... I've had the same little level for the past 2,000 or so dishes - hasn't let me down yet...
