? spam posts ?

Sadoun. I'm curious whether you have the capability of forcing new users to be moderated until they make one real post? I've seen this in other forums, and it seems to be a good way to keep out the spam, like these for-sale things that have been popping up from time to time.

Although I guess that means more work for the moderators.

I'd like that too. I have been busy lately and login maybe 3-4 times a day

I ban them permanently as soon as I see it, but you can never (re)act fast enough.

That is a good idea. It will create a lot of work for the moderators. I don't think SPAM is a big problem right now, but if it gets out of hand, we will implement this idea and others.

I will suggest you create a classified section for people to post whatever they have to sell or buy. And anything outside of this section be taken out and the member penalised

Why would he do that? It's like telling Walmart to set up one corner in their store so people can come in and sell their stuff.

Rules of the forum clearly state no advertising or selling or posting links to competitor sites. I think that is not too much to ask.

well most of the satellite forum have the classified section
And by the way most of these spammer are not regular member of the forum.
You can't stop the untill they have actually post whatever they want to post.
Even on ebay which is for you to sell your stuffs these spammer are there in the hundreds all they want is put as many advert as possible all they want is 1% percent success.
on Ebay it take about 3 days or more for ebay to warn you about them.
Practically I dont see how you are going to block them out unless this is no longer a public forum

Spammers will spam even with classifieds. Todays spam was some random international phone number.

Also, most other sat forums are not owned by a business. They are public forums founded through sponsors. Sadoun is sponsor of at least 2 of those forums that I know.

There is no way to prevent spam. Most we can do is hope that one of us moderators catches it early on and bans the user and deletes it. No big deal I guess since there is always someone around here

I think the mods have been doing a good job with the spammers never see it up for more than a few hours.but it still is aggravating.

I just ignore 'em and hope they go away. heh.

I guess it's phishing instead of spamming, but I read the other day where some county executive lost over $1-million of county funds in a Nigerian email scam. Just when I start wondering, why do these idiot spammers keep trying this stuff, somebody gives them a big payday. I gotta assume spamming pays off in the long run.

That was why i said all they need is in fact less than 1% but less than 0.1%.
i.e less than one in every thousand.
Imagine making $100,000 just in one deal just profit no taxes.
They dont care how soon you take it out but they just want people to see it.

I have seen a lot of scam coming from Nigeria and other countries. They use many methods including phone relay service, email, online shopping, etc.

When I check the IP address, most of the time it points to the Netherland. What's up with that?

If you suspect someone is trying to internet scam you, the least you can do is report them to their IP (internet provider).
