Get rid of the flashvortex.com menu

It is my assumption you are connecting to this thing outside your own network. When there is an issue connecting to the site your forum just sits there hung in suspense waiting. Some days are way worse than others but I have given up on using your site more than once because of this.

I'll have to say I *never* click on anything along that Flash list.

If I need to reference your site, I always open 2nd browser, then saved link to sadoun.com
Find what I need, copy link etc, close that 2nd window and then go back to your forum.

I cant tell you how many times I've typed a very long detailed response on the forum, to have accidently clicked on that thing with a notebook touchpad mouse thing, and lost all the typing. That is not fun...

Couple of weeks ago it was taking over 30+ seconds to post/browse on here just because it was connecting to flashvortex.

OK, fixed. Now moved to sadoun.net server. So it should be as fast as any page here. Let me know if you notice any slowliness.

Rainman, the site was down for a few minutes for server maintenance and was up and running within 10 minutes.

How are sadoun.net pages loading now? It should be much faster

.net is a bit faster but I see you are still pulling the codebase from outside the site which is part of the problem along with what resources I currently have allocated in use on this machine. The main problem with using anything JAVA is the JAVA engine. It resides on the client machine. In concept this is a good thing as it reduces load on the server but in reality your failure/success is directly linked ot the client machine as well.

As to checking click throughs on the menu you should be tracking that data on your own server. Just a matter on mining the data out. You would get the same result from a text menu with a fraction of the time spent loading. Unfortunately I do not know a way to free the browser for use while the JAVA engine loads. The core weakness with JAVA and the Net are the same after 11 years of development.

It was never (IMHO) intended for usage on the Net but as a way to build applications that could be sent to run on any OS as long as they had the JAVA engine installed. In that scenereo there is no real engine load time affect as you understand you are running an app designed for multi OS usage.

Even then there are better solutions. I am surprised JAVA has survived this long. It is nothing more than a huge resource hog that in this case is doing nothing more than a moving star field in the background.

It must be the Google Analytics code which tracks how many visitors and where they are coming from.

Your server is logging all that information now unless someone has turned it off. If so it is just a matter of turning it back on again. I do not know enough about what you are doing to make any serious recommendations but if you are running servers in house that handle your website and email depending on the OS there are many lightweight apps out there that will do the reporting from the log files.

If you are hosted with an outside company they most likely provide the stats as part of the hosting fees. Unless Google is paying you for the data they are collecting there is no real reason to use them for stat tracking.

If you are in house with the server and the logs are on you should have a pile of data by now. I would recommend compressing and moving out of space every week. After reports are made of course. This way the files are there that you can refer back to if need be.
