Maximum Distance for DG380 Motor

The distance between my receiver and dish is approximately 140 feet. I believe this is giving me a problem with my DG380 motor. It moves sometimes and then will only move to the east and not west.

Is there a power booster that I can purchase that provides sufficient power to the motor for that distance, or is there another solution?

Thanks for any suggestions.

I assume you are using RG6 cable. you may try going with RG11 this sometimes works on longer runs.

have you tried moving the motor manually to the 0 postion, and then resetting the motor per its instructions?
I have 150 ft cable... good copper core Bendel cable and it works fine to a DG280b motor.
Also, are all your settings in the receiver set correctly?

While at it, also check your connectors. Solid Copper core RG11 (BEST) or Solid Copper core RG6 would work better than regular Copper Clad Steel RG6.

You didn't say what equipment you have.....receiver, and lnb....I had some trouble with my setup. I'm out there about 130'. My motor would move a few time and quit. Then move a few more times and quit. My trouble was my lnb, I put in a new one, all's well now for more than a year. See my equip below.

Yeah Fishbait... to answer your question about a power booster, the answer is no, there isn't any booster you can get to fix your problem.

You should be able to get the thing operating with 150 ft of cable if all the connections and equipment are good.

My run from Dish to Receiver is approximately 100ft, but it's not the cable--I find. It's the DG380 cannot handle the weight of the FortecStar 120cm to move the dish past 30-degrees East or West of Zero (0). I have one and it has been frustrating--to say the least.

Tech Support did not tell me this until later, that the motor had been modified.

Juan23rd, When did you get your motor? The mod is easy. You may PM me your address and I will mail you the small screw that needs to be replaced.

Sadoun,
I have tried to PM you, but apparently I can't. Will try again today--now. Thanx, I bought the MKit5 in May 2009.

Fishbait,

To find out if you have enough voltage you may want to disconnect the cable at the motor end and check the voltage with a voltmeter. Then check the voltage at the receiver and see how much voltage drop you have over the run of the cable. If the drop is small, then it may be the motor/receiver combo that is the culprit.

Just for kicks, I measured the voltage drop across 50 feet of RG/6. For vertical polarization the drop was about .4 volts, same for horizontal polarization.
