Maximum Distance for DG380 Motor
The distance between my receiver and dish is approximately 140 feet. I believe this is giving me a problem with my DG380 motor. It moves sometimes and then will only move to the east and not west.
Is there a power booster that I can purchase that provides sufficient power to the motor for that distance, or is there another solution? Thanks for any suggestions. |

You didn't say what equipment you have.....receiver, and lnb....I had some trouble with my setup. I'm out there about 130'. My motor would move a few time and quit. Then move a few more times and quit. My trouble was my lnb, I put in a new one, all's well now for more than a year. See my equip below.

Yeah Fishbait... to answer your question about a power booster, the answer is no, there isn't any booster you can get to fix your problem.
You should be able to get the thing operating with 150 ft of cable if all the connections and equipment are good.

My run from Dish to Receiver is approximately 100ft, but it's not the cable--I find. It's the DG380 cannot handle the weight of the FortecStar 120cm to move the dish past 30-degrees East or West of Zero (0). I have one and it has been frustrating--to say the least. ![]() Tech Support did not tell me this until later, that the motor had been modified. ![]() ![]()

Fishbait,
To find out if you have enough voltage you may want to disconnect the cable at the motor end and check the voltage with a voltmeter. Then check the voltage at the receiver and see how much voltage drop you have over the run of the cable. If the drop is small, then it may be the motor/receiver combo that is the culprit. Just for kicks, I measured the voltage drop across 50 feet of RG/6. For vertical polarization the drop was about .4 volts, same for horizontal polarization.
