    HughesNet

Hello. Does the sathawk3000 work to set up hughesnet dishes? For high speed internet? If so what are the sats, and can I find them on the sat data page at Satmeter.com? My boss told me to look for sats

    sat mex 5
    sat mex 6
    horizon1
    ia8
    ia6
    g4r
    g11
    galaxy 16

    I found the satmex5 - 116.8, ia8 - 89W, ia6 - 93W, g4r - galaxy4r 99W,
    g11 - galaxy11 91W.
But no Horizon1, galaxy 16, or satmex6. Any help would be appretiated.

    Hey, grubby...

Lyngsat lists all the satellites. By clicking on each one shown at

North & South America - LyngSat

you can see what services are carried, transponder frequencies, etc.

Green listings are Ku only, Yellow C-band and Ku, and the Pink/Mauve ones are C-band only.

    FYI, Horizon 1/G13 is at 127 W, Galaxy 16 is at 99W, and SatMex 6 is 113 W.

    Good luck!

Thanks Radiobob. However I have been to that site in my quest. What I need is a site like Satmeter.com that allows me to download the data to my computer for Satpicker to load it into my Sathawk. I need to be able to align the dish with my Sathawk and I didnt see anything there that provided a link to the info/data that I needed.

Well to be honest it is still an ongoing struggle. I was at a Hughesnet install last week when I needed satmex 6, 113 W. Well I didnt have it in my meter, even though I had installed the HughesNet sat list from SatHawk Digital Satellite Signal Meter with Positive Satellite ID. Well after going through all the sat download lists I could find, I found this sat, Solidaridad2 113W. Im going to put that in my meter and see if I can align a dish that calls for satmex 6 with the solidaridad2 data. If anyone can point to some satmex6 data that I can download for my Sathawk meter I would appretiate it.

    MMO's

I am moving in about 2 months, and I am seriously condisering getting HughesNet, of course because I am moving to a very rural area. I have one MMO or online game that I play and won't give up so easily. It is not the most high end game. Does anyone think I could still play it with HughesNet?
I know one thing its not so much the download speed as it is the upload speed for MMO's. Would I be looking at high ping and packet loss? What kind of bandwidth can you get with Sat internet?

    Will.

Any games that require fast response times, such as racing games, war games, etc. are going to be really frustrating with satellite internet. The latency will kill you.

With satellite, never EXPECT to get what they offer. For example, with HughesNet, I generally tell people to expect about 50%to 60% of what they publish. Remember the number they give is an "up to" number. If you have the 1500 down plan, you should expect to get around 800k down speed. Sometimes it will be worse, and at 1:00 in the morning it will be better.
