Depends on your usage. If you do large (>175 MB) quick downloads, WildBlue is better. I just downloaded 330Mb of Corel updates in 30-minutes. This would take hours on Hughesnet because you would get FAPPED half-way through. However, if you want to dribble along at a slower pace, you can download more GB per 30-day period with Hughesnet than WildBlue.

    Hughesnet

The company I work for is in an area where there is no cable and too far away from the at&t central office for DSL. We went with Hughesnet it worked great, until the modem died. So I called Hughesnet, what a process I had to go thru with them just to prove the modem was OD. The tech's I had to deal with were in another country, I had a language barrier. After a few days they determined the modem was bad and they will ship another one in five to seven days. That was about six months ago still no modem. When we have called them about it many times, they keep giving us the run around. We said we want to drop the service we were told that we had to pay a penalty fee because we had a contract. It was cheeper to pay monthly than to pay the penalty fee. So much for Hughes.

Wild Blue is working for me

I am running a small home network in NW Pennsylvania off of Wild Blue and things have been going well. I had issues with the installation, but I always do with contractor installations. The bottom line is that it's working and supporting a small LAN without any challenges.

Installation quality is the cornerstone of all of these services, and I regret that there doesn't seem to be a lot of incentive for the installer to excel beyond getting it to work marginally before they leave. Know what you expect, ask to see the installation checklist, and go behind the installer to make sure they really did it. My dish was not grounded...

It's buyer-beware, but the Wild Blue product does work.

    Hi neighbor!

I am in Scandia and have been going nuts on my verizon palm phone to find a forum with a posting from here. Glad to hear Wild Blue is working. Are speeds here close to DSL speeds? Or at least faster then this Evdo stuff I'm using right now? Please e-mail me if you have any more helpful info. Are you still happy with WildBlue?
