ADTH 8009IR Receiver

I have this receiver for TFC but I cancelled my subscription, can this be use for FTA channels? If so, anyone can guide me thru this. Thanks in advance.

I have never seen this receiver but usually all those "dedicated" receivers such as for Globecast and TFC, etc. can be used for generic FTA. Best way to find out is to play around with the remote and look for MENU options like INSTALLATION, SATELLITE, TRANSPONDER and things like that. Then you should be able to configure the receiver for various satellites. Check it out and get back to us.

I tried playing around with the system but I didnt get anything. Receiver is now displaying FALS, I'm guessing it says "false"? Strength is about 61% & the Quality is ZERO. I hooked up the receiver to DirecTV sat. I'm not sure, maybe its just not pointing to the right path or something.

You won't get anything with the DirecTv dish... its way too small and the wrong type of LNB. You need at least a 30" dish with a linear LNB; you must have one if you watched TFC before. What FTA channels are you hoping to get anyway?

So, I need to buy FTA LNB. I dont have the TFC dish anymore. It just happened that the previous tenant of my new apartment orphaned the direcTv dish thats why I tried it with ADTH 8009IR receiver.
Do you think I will pick up anything if I install new LND (for FTA) & 30" dish? I don't know if I could get local channel here Chicago (I cant get em with amplified antenna) For a FTA starter I'll be happy for the most I can get & learn from there. Btw, what about the TFC access card installed to my receiver, do I need to replace it with something else or I should leave it?
Hey! Thanks for your time.

The channels you get will be mostly foreign language channels; you won't get anything from Chicago. If you buy a 30" dish for FTA you will get a lot of channels but nothing "local".

Here is a link to the most popular FTA satellite called IA5:

Do you want to sub to TFC again? Maybe they will send you a free dish; you could ask.
