A set of channels are weak

Hi,
I have a BEC 6600+ and having problem with a set of channels including IRIB. Even though the quality is 98 the picture goes off and on all the time. The strength is about 63 and if it changes to 64 or 65 everything will be ok. I tried to use different TP but it didn’t work at all, tried to tune the dish but didn’t help actually I guess the 98 percent of quality should give me a perfect picture, am I right?

I set it to factory defaults and re-set all settings, didn’t help. Any idea how I can fix this problem?

Thanks in advance for any help-Rob

98 % quality is fantastic. You can't ask for more than that. I suspect either a weak LNB or one that is having intermittent problems or else you have a problem in the receiver itself. Did you try changing the coax cable and check the connectors? Sometimes they can cause intermittent problems.

I took the receiver close to the dish and replace the cable, didnt help. the stenghth is 63 for some channels and 64 for some other groups. for those with 64 there is no problem however the picture is going on and off for 63 groups. but the problem is I cannot get a better signal because the quality is 98 with no change at all.

Yesterday I tried to upgrade the firmware as the last hope, first I tried with XP no lock for connection, then tried win2k the same, also I found a machine with 98 and tried with that, it tries to connect but then says connection cannot be stablished or something like that. Do you have any idea whay?

Also do you think if replacing the firmware can help?

Thanks again-Rob

I don't think replacing the firmware will help with your problem. Do you have a friend with a FTA receiver? You can try to hook it up to your dish -- at least that way you can eliminate your dish/LNB/cables as the source of the problem.

this receiver doesnt have any option for FEC setting, do you think if this causes any problem?

Also, what is different between quality and strength, do you think 63 is too low for strength? if so, can I increase that somehow?

Thanks again-Rob

FEC will not cause fluctuating signal levels like you are getting. The readings you quote seem pretty good. Try to use another receiver as I posted before and get back to us.

Hi,
I got my friends receiver and it worked fine with my dish, but I really confused, because he also took my receiver and tested for about 2 days with no problem, So I dont know, if something is wrong with my receiver why it worked fine at his home?

Thanks again-Rob

All I can suggest is to put up a bigger dish. It seems your receiver's tuner might be weaker than most so a stronger signal will help. Does your friend have a bigger dish than you do? You say the receiver worked fine at his place.
