Need some help please

I have new pansat all set up. Quality is at 70-75% no signal. I would like to get Telstar 5. I made a copy from Sodoun's site about calculating Azuimith and elevation. I am in Arlington Washington. North of Seattle. my zip is 98223. The elevation is 30.1 the azumith is 147.4-15 degrees for magmetic lineation. lnbf is -21.3 So Now I am lost. two different people have told me two different things about the LNBF type. Universal or standard.. Which one? I am only going to have one lnbf line, However I did find an old DTV lnb Will that work with my system? Oh one other question. The tilt skew has me confused. it says negative 21.3. There is a little arrow on the LNBF where should that be pointed to in order to get skew correct. Does the LNBF have to be tilted towards or against the dish. Thank you Lab Dog. The lines that are marked on the mast head holder are for your elevation correct? I noticed that there is a red line there. So when I adjust it, the indicater line should line up with the red mark right?

The DTV LNB won't work, you will need to try the universal.check lyngsat.com for specifics.as far as rotating the lnb,you should be able to get some signal even if the skew is not perfect.try it 21 degrees off center in both directions and one should key it in better.

I'm not sure, but I believe the listing name is Intelsat now...it is listed as a C and KU band bird;the DTV lnb might work on the ku side.check with one of the mods for speifics.

Thanks swampthing

Still have not found any kind of signal yet. I have a compass to help with the azumith and elevation. However I am not having very much luck with it. I am not sure where I put the compass, if I hold it or actually put it on the dish somewhere. AS for the LNB, kinda stumped there too. Do I actually fasten it down with the screw and leave it or do I need to move it around such as closer to the dish itself. If the later is the case, why would there be a screw hole for the LNB to go through. Lastly, having trouble with Lyngsat. I am not sure on how to read the tables. I see the locations and I see where it says the transponders. The column on the far left has numbers which I do not understand. I am trying the best I can to figure this out. I am reading a lot but still not getting the picture (no pun intended). I only get signal quality but never a strenght reading.
When I am running the scans for the transponders do I do them individually or is it doing them all for me? Oh does Pansat have a blind search function? and what does that mean? Thanks Swamp thing. I am trying to talk to the person that I bought it from but he speaks broken English so I am having a hard time understanding him.

labdog;...if you are using a compass, and not a satfinder to locate the bird, then you probably have not hit it.You are definitely gonna need a satmeter.Try to borrow one.

P.S.... do not put the compass on the dish, the magnetic deviation will pull the reading way off.A compass is used to get you in the ballpark. We are gonna hafta find someone who watches this bird to give you an active transponder to try to pick up.If I were you,I'd check with dtsexpert about that AFTER I located a satmeter.

What kind of LNB are you using and what kind of dish? The only kind of LNB that has a screw hole right through it is a DTV LNB -- do not use this kind. You need at least a 30" dish with either a standard of a universal LNB.

LNB

the LNB type is a Universal. I checked after my brain kicked in. Someone had said to use a standard reading I got nothing either, however when I looked at the LNB it said Universal. ops: I am going to go to Lowes and get some more bolts and what not so I can put it up on a fence post in my backyard. That Way i will have almost a 360deg view from the the BY to the sky. I see that Telestar is located by Texas. Is there some where on the web that I can go to to see where are all the satellites are so I have a good idea of where I am pointing to? Thanks labdog

Yeah, but there should be a black plastic 'holder' for the LNB. That holder goes through the screw hole -- the LNB is then held in place by the plastic ring on the holder. This allows you to rotate the LNB to adjust for skew.

A good meter costs around $450.00 USD; best bet is to take your receiver and a small TV set out to the dish.

labdog;...Kat's right...use your receiver and tv if you cannot BORROW a satmeter;they are expensive. For setting up 1 dish,it would be overkill(but nice to have).

LNB holder

I understand that part, the ring is held together by two screws on either side. The black plastic part that is angled like this__ or something like that also has a screw hole for a screw and the arm on the dish itself has a screw hole. If somebody sends me their e-mail addy I can send a picture of what I got so far and then they can tell me what is wrong. IF they send e-mail through a private message. I will take a picture right now.

You've got all the right pieces. Send me or swampthang an email picture of it -- on second thought, send it to swamp because I'm outta here for a couple days.

satellite finder

I got a little cheapie sat finder from the TV store in Town. Ok my level is at 83%. As try as I might I cannot get a quality reading on Galaxy 10r. My elevation is 35 which it is set at on the dish elevation chart. The Azumith is 180.9. I do not know which transponders to use, when I scroll down to click on the Transponders. Do I click that one, then scan it. Then go back and get number 2, scan it, then basically all the transponders that way? I want to get my level first though correct? I am just getting very frustrated
