Bec6600+CI help needed!!

Hi, I just bought a bec 6600+CI and tried to set it up but with no luck. I was trying to point it to Galaxy3R, Telstart and AMC4 with the elevation, Azimuth and LNBF obtained from Sadoun.com site. I was following the instruction, with the help of a compass. I even installed the dish on top of my roof. I am getting signal strength around 80 and signal quality ranging from 20 to 60 on average.

Here is what I used:

Galaxy3R Telstar5 AMC4
Azimuth 213.4 215.8 220.5
Elevation 35.5 34.6 32.6
LNBF 24 25.6 28.7
freq. 11780H 12084V 11860H

Now I have a few questions:

1. Do I need a CAM module or smart card to get the signal of FTA channels? What's the CI come with the receiver?

2. The signal path is slightly obscured by the trees around my house. Would that be the cause?

3. What is the best receiver for FTA like CCTV4 etc.?

Thanks alot.

Sean

Answers:

1. That receiver does not need CAM or card to pull in FTA channels.

2. Quite likely.

3. There really is no "best" receiver IMHO; they all do pretty much the same thing and picture quality among brands and models is not that different.

When you are getting a "quality" of 20-60 % do the indicator bars turn from white to yellow? If they don't, you are on the wrong satellite.

Thanks for the reply. No, the signal bars never turn from white to yellow. That's why I am wondering and clueless. Would that be possible that the channels I intend to receive are at least temporarily scrambled? There are rumors that CCTV4 might be scrambled but when I check lysat, it still says it's free. Is lysat's info updated? Thanks!!!

Even if the channels are scrambled your receiver will still get signal (and quality). Double check the lyngsat transponder data -- and no, it is not always up to date. Try for Telstar 5 (IA5) and use the transponder at 12,152 MHz; it is pretty easy to find.

Would you say the trees are above the line of sight for your area -- approx a 35 degrees angle? If so, find another location for the dish before wasting any more time.

What is LNB type that you are using. Your LNBF frequency is bad. Is it normal or universal LNBF that you are using. Let me know and you will be watching your chanels soon!

I have a FTA specialist come to my house to inspect the scene and he agreed that tree is a problem but he found a spot where signal is not obscured but I need to set up a pole to support the dish.

I was busy last week and left my receiver (BEC6600+CI) in the basement. When I hooked everything up to do testing yesterday, I found out that the receiver's menu was unstable (flushing frame by frame quickly downward). Also the color became black and white. I don't have a clue why it behaves like that (it was okay a week ago). Could it be because of humidity or simple defective parts? (it's only 15 days old)

I am really frustrated. If anyone has any idea, please leave your thoughts here. Thanks.

My LNBF frequency is normal/standard (10750), I believe.

Somehow the receiver is in PAL mode for the TV output. Check the manual to see how to change it back to NTSC.

Kat:

You are absolutely right. I set the TV mode to pal by mistake. With the help of remote and knowing the order of menu and sub-menu, I was able to reset it back to NTSC despite the flushing frames which are hard to see. Many thanks!!!!!
