Using dish receiver to identify birds

I currently use a dish receiver to identify and key in on satellites:it identifies each bird(dish or not)and gtells signal strength. Is there a meter on the market that can do this?

thanx,swampthang7

That's interesting. What birds can it identify other than DishNetwork and Bell ExpressVu ?

That's cool. I always thought that a DishNetwork receiver could only identify an EchoStar satellite. :?

This is the first time I hear that DishNet receiver can identify sats. DishNet receivers are programed at fixed SR (20000 and 26000). The transponder map is pre-programed as well. Unless the feed happens to match the one of the DN freq and SR exactly, then DN receiver can get lock.
Also, DirectTv is not DVB compliant, so I doubt that DN receiver can get lock on DirectTV.

Hmmm.... I beat all you guys -- I have a really old model 4000 ExpressVu prototype unit. I should play around and see what birds that beast will identify.
