This receiver has a built-in CA IRDETO smartcard reader. So if the channel become IRDETO encrypted, then you can just buy the smartcard from the programming provider and insert it in the receiver and continue to enjoy watching your favorite CCTV-4 channel. If the channel remains FTA, then you will not need to get the smartcard and the receiver should work fine as it is.

CDVB2000E won't work for CCTV-4 and CCTV-9

Hi, According to CCTV today, SDVB2000E will not work for them. Please see following msg:

each dedicated CCTV receiver, with the correct CCTV box key coded in its embedded software, comes with a CCTV/IRDETO smartcard. These are the only receivers that are capable to decode the encrypted CCTV signal for both
CCTV-4 and CCTV-9 programming.

There is a company in Ohio sells a digital receiver model CDVB2000e made by Coship, one of the manufactures of CCTV dedicated receivers. That particular receiver DOES NOT have the required box key installed! It comes with no smartcard either!

Again, not any IRDETO smartcard would work for CCTV reception. The software in CCTV's authorization station can only authorize smartcards with serial numbers within assigned blocks. This is strictly controlled by IRDETO, not CCTV. For more technical information please refer to IRDETO's web site by following the link here. http://www.irdetoaccess.com/

Could sadoun.com confirm this?

Who did you talk to at CCTV?? I don't think they have an office here in the USA, do they??? Don't give me another dealer or distributor number...

Whoever told that could be right or could be wrong, we can't confirm. Last year, rumors have it that CCTV4 was going to be scrambled back on October, 2002. Here it is 6 months later and the channels is still free.

We checked with our supplier about this receiver and they mentioned to us that as long as you have a valid IRDETO access card, it should work.

Since the channel is FTA, you don't have to worry about it anyway. Your best source of information would be to contact CCTV directly or COSHIP and ask them about this.

Hi this is the response from CCTV authorized dealer:

Jack, as you may know, we are not able to tell you specifically whether an item you bought from other companies is suitable for CCTV-4 and CCTV-9 reception with encrypted signals. Simply put, we are not responsible to what other sellers have done.

One important thing we do know is that it would be a serious violation to the CCTV/IRDETO contracts, if the manufacture (Coship, in this case) of this digital box has the CCTV box key installed without being properly licensed. Look through our list of CCTV authorized dealers, you can quickly find out whether that company is one of those listed.

CCTV smartcards come with each dedicated box, and is not sold separately.

As we have informed you many times before, you should always get your CCTV dedicated digital receivers from an authorized dealer, rather than someone you randomly picked out from the internet.

With the fact that your box did not come with a smartcard, we are almost certain this box was manufactured without the required box key. Therefore, you are pretty much on your own now. The box cam would not recogize any CCTV smartcard for data exchange. I will let you to reach your own conclusions on what that means to you.

We always wonder, why don't you let your local authorized dealer help you? Let us wish you the best luck on resolving this terrible mistake with your previous seller.

Thank you for your interests in CCTV equipment.

Does the box you have for sale have the CCTV box key installed ??? If not, why you previously advertized as CCTV READY?
