For linear KU such as T5, you will need a larger dish, 30" minimum.

I am going to try this too . Been reading a lot . If I get some of this wrong , some one please correct me . :-)
First , I have a question for you . Which bird ( satellite ) did you try to pick up ?
A FTA receiver or DVB PC card will not pick up DTV . A FTA receiver will pick up the radir channels on DN ( Dish Network ) & BEV ( Bell Express View ) Canadian . It will also pick up the un-encripted " barker " ( announcement channels ) .
There are hacks for DN & BEV for the DVB PC cards , but that is another subject , altogether .
There are other FTA channels on other birds . Much of this appears to be ethnic / foreign , educational , public broadcasting and religous programming .
How much of this will work on an 18" DTV dish , I will probably find out .
Another suggestion , my DTV dish is set for around 50 degrees of elevation for the origional bird , at 101 degrees ( I think ) . If I point it at a different bird , I think the elevation must change ?
Also , I think the DTV LNB is made for circular pollarization . Also DN & BEV ? But the other KU band DVB birds , are they circular , horizontal or vertical ?
Do I need a differnet LNB for the other birds ?
Thanks
