Channels on Viewsat Ultra Vs Fortec

I have a Fortec Star Classic NA aimed at 97W sat. It is receiving lots of channels.

I got a new Viewsat ultra and connected to the same dish and and coax. I did a blind scan, but the Viewsat Ultra does not pick up as many channels as Fortec Star.

I was expecting that it would pick up the same channels, and I can not figure out what the problem might be.

Thanks for any help

the Fortec is a better receiver with a better blind scan function.

Thanks for your reply, I just came back from Asia. I also noticed that in the Blind Scan menu, I have to select Frequency steps. The choices are 5 thru 16. When the set starts to scan, it is going in 5KHZ steps. I am sure with this step size, it will skip over many transponders if I understand this correctly. The step should be 1KHZ!

Also, in the LNB menu , under LNB type selection when I choose Universal I have to select High/Low transponder frequencies. In the Fortec, when Universal LNB is selected, there are no selections for Frequency. I do not know if this causes some issues where the Viewsat Ultra will not get the as many channels.

Many thanks.

I manually entered a bunch of TP frequencies which I copied from my Fortec Star STB into Viewsat Ultra, and did an Auto Scan. Now it seems it has most of the channels that Fortec has, still missing a few.

I own a viewsat and let me tell you that the blind scan is the worst I have ever seen.
The step is in deed adjustable.
The lower the worse.
Most receivers scan at 12 and they see all transponders.
Viewsat at 12 skips them.
If you select 5 it will not discriminate and it will duplicate and create bogus transponders. HORRIBLE!!!!!
