I'm used to hacking DTV & Dishnet ,but I would like to get familliar with FTA sat .The directions that came with this system are pretty skimpy.
I see some channels are from the same sat as DTVand Dishnet use ..can I just hook my present DTV coax to my ird and be able to pick up something or do I have to down load something ..I see where the book mentions downloading manually or automatically ...what does this mean...? HHEEELLPP !!
You can hook up your DirecTV dish directly to your MPEG2 DVB FTA receiver. However, you will need to change the LNBF setting. The local oscilator freq. for a dss circular LNBF, like the DircTV and Dish LNBFs, is 11250.
In a Fortec Star receiver, you could setup paramaters for up to 50 different LNBFs (antennas).
There are 2 ways to upgrade the software for your receiver. One is automatic and it is done over the air (OTA). In this mode, the receiver mfg contracts with the satellite service provider to dedicate a certain channel to software downlaod over the air. Usually this becomes feasable when the receivers are widely used in the coverage area. For example when we reach sales of 100,000 (hypo. #) Fortec Star receivers or more in the USA, we might consider this option. This is what Dish and DirecTV do.
The second option is manual uploading of software. You will have to use a PC or Laptop to transfer the program to your receiver using the serial port.
