STB editor

am having trouble setting up the communications between the 6000CI and the STB editing software. I have tried various com ports and a couple different serial cables. The program will say "Please try STB power off and on" (2)" Also in the information window it says STB Model: none and Source: None. Perhaps the info doesn't change until contact is made with the receiver In my computer hardware I have tried default serial speed as well as trying the max of 115,200. It sure would be great to get this to work. Any help appreciated.

I don't use this program, but do use another similar Fortec tools program that is used for the Lifetime, and ran into similar problems when I was trying to use the program with Win98, which were cleared up when I switched to WinXP like the above says. However, I've since learned that the program works fine from Win2000 as well. So if you don't have a computer with XP, you might be able to use a computer with 2000.
I wish Fortec would re-think it's decision to write programs that only work in one or 2 operating systems. For a program that obviously doesn't need any fancy bells and whistles provided by XP and is limited by the serial port, there is absolutely no reason why the program shouldn't be compatable with ANY version of windows.
