Diseqc lesson 101

Diseqc 1.2 means you can control a motor with the receiver

Diseqc 1.0 means it will accept a 4x1 multiswitch

Diseqc 1.1 means the receiver will accept a 8x1 multiswitch (committed/uncommitted)

Diseqc 1.3 means it has USALS (where you set the motor on one satellite and it goes to the rest)

As for the motor, I know the Viewsat will control a motor. There should be an option in there to set it for motor

Muad'Dib will become famous soon enough
1.1 up to 64 positions.

The problem is TRUE 1.1 versus fake 1.1.

Hey Mr. Iceberg. I'm new to the FTA, although I have been messing with satellites since 1986 - installed my own 10' dish with HH polar mount and Uniden 7000 receiver. Now I have gotten into something new, this F2A. I got a package deal from Sadoun, 1M dish, DG380 motor, the QPH031 quad LNBF (two linear outputs and two circular), a switch that controls whether I am looking at an L or C output, and the Mercury II receiver. APparently I am confused as to what setting I should use in the menu setup. I tried to get my satellites tweaked in for best strength. The usals setup goes to 97° first (should go) to establish home position. However, when I tried to do this, the dish took off like a scalded dog heading east and didn't stop until it limited out. No matter what I do, all the different reset tricks, the dish won't move. I can hear the relay clicking inside the motor housing when I use the manual buttons, or try to go to home position from the receiver - still looking at almost ground level toward the east. I'm stuck. Has the motor gone bad? Or is it just my ignorance as to what procedure to follow next? Regards

Hey Mr. Bobcat. My DG380 motor is diseq 1.2 rated. My Mercury II
receiver only gives me diseq 1.0 or 1.1 options (or none). I am trying to control my dish either with diseq or usals protocol. The first time I tried to move the dish to 97° it went all the way to the east end and hung up. I can't move it at all or go back to zero but hear the relay clicking inside the motor. Do I need to download update for the receiver to get it up to 1.2 protocol, or am I just all wet? I'm new to F2A. Regards.

on your receiver hit the menu button then hit ok on antenna setup scroll down to positioner and then hit the left or right arrow to select either diseqc 1.2 or usals would recommend usuals as this makes setup easier.

Thanks, Rainman. Went through the receiver (Mercury II) and reset it to factory default settings. Selected the USALS method, tried to motor to go to zero, but it will not move. Will not respond to e or w pushbuttons. Blinks 8 times over and over. Decided it is probably bad and have RMA'd it in for testing.
Regards

Thanks, Rainman. At times like these, a bit of luck is usually helpful..
