Sg2100
hello,
i bought SG2100 not too long ago and now i'm ready to use it. I have SG2100, BEC6600+, Universal LNB. First i connect SG2100 to LNB1 to get the power to manually set it back to zero. I get the connection correctly but the light on SG2100 doesn't come on. I try many different cables RG6, the light still doesn't come on. since i lose my BEC6600+ manuals, i don't know if i have to do anything in the receiver to send the power to SG2100. So, i guess my SG2100 is dead??? i also notice that when finish connecting the cables, i plug the power cable into BEC6600+, the clicking noise starts, i think this noise comes from the receiver. I do open up the SG2100 and BEC6600, and everything looks clean, no burn, no black mark. So, not sure what's wrong with SG2100. Can anyone give me some suggestions? i'd really appreciate.

I'd recommend getting a VOM and check to make sure that your coax isn't shorted. Particularly, perhaps the center wire got bent over and shorted where it plugs into the motor or lnbf. If you have one of those little hand held signal meters, you should be able to make that squeal even if not pointed at a sat, provided that voltage is getting to the lnbf. My guess is that you aren't getting voltage either to or through the motor.

thanks for your info. So i need to test the cables? these cables work fine with my cable TV. Well, i will connect one end to LnB and the other end to my signal meter. i should get good reading meaning that the cable is ok? I will do that today. thanks.

I was originally just thinking that one of the center conductors just go bent over, but your mentioning cable TV makes me ask to make sure that you have completely disconnected these cables from all the cable TV components, like switches, diplexers, etc. Ie you ARE just using the cables aren't you? Cables can work for other purposes, and not work for satellite, because they have to pass DC for satellite, and sometimes they can work even without DC continuity for cable or OTA antennas. And if you have some kind of transformer or capacitor in the circuit, that will kill satellite reception.
Re using the signal meter to test, usually those meters will squeal once connected to the voltage from the receiver, so you can test all the way out to the motor, and then to the lnbf to verify that you're getting voltage out there. Connecting the meter just to the lnbf won't help. You are testing for voltage from the receiver in this test.

i just use the cables that i know work for my cable TV. it's RG6. I thought it's the cable but since i have tried many of them, so it gotta be something else. The receiver looks ok since i can get pictures of setup screen. Anyway, your suggestion is to connect my signal meter to 1 end of the cable and the other end goes to LNB port on the receiver? AND 1 end to signal meter and the other end to SG2100? please advise. Thanks.

THat should work, but assuming it's one of those SF95 meters, mine usually starts squealing when only connected to the receiver coax, at least when I turn the little dial all the way. If it squeals, then this shows that it's getting voltage there. Then connect the motor, and see if it's still squealing, then put it after the motor. You should be able to narrow it down. But what I'm really hoping is that you'll take off some coax and find that the center conductor is bent over and shorting out. I know that happened to me once.
Also, I assume you tried moving motor by pushing buttons on the motor too?
Also, you mentioned not having manual for your receiver. I'm not familiar with your receiver, but most receivers have a setting that turns ON LNBF POWER. Make sure that it is turned on. However, the fact that your receiver is clicking when you connect the coax, sure sounds like something is shorted.

i still can't identify the issue. i probably hook sg2100 to another receiver to find out. again, the light doesn't still come on. the receiver makes a clicking sound when i connect sg2100 to LNB IN connector. Well, if SG2100 is dead, then it should have shown some signs?
