    Help with elevation

Hey guys I'm still trying to find 79W to set up my motorized system. I am using dishpointer.com and I plug in my info and it tells me my elevation is 39. However, when I use this setting I don't get any signals on my finder at all. I seem to be getting signal at 30-32. Any tips? I would love to get this motor set up to scan all the free to air sats, especially amc4 and galaxy 123W. I have a fortec 90cm dish, 2100 sg motor with fortec star univeral lnb. Does it make a difference it the lnb is set to 10600 or 10750 high? I've tried using the 12177 frequency for this sat. How hard is it to find these linear signals on a scale 1-10? It sure does seem hard. Your help will be appreciated. Thanks.

according to the sg2100 manual, the dish elevation is calculated by the table on the bottom of the pages.

it says "40 - the declination angle from the table"

For 43 degrees, the table shows 6.6

    so 40 - 6.6. = 33.4 degrees

    Use USALS to move motor.
Put your coordinates in the reciever (43 and 79)
Have the motor move to "zero" or "reference position". That should put it at the exact center spot.
Point the whole mess to 190 compass degrees.
Using USALS, have the motor drive to 79W satellite. The dish will not move much.
Put the reciever on New york networks frequency like I said in previous post
Adjust the dish around 33 degrees looking for signal. Peak by moving the motor on the pole a hair only, and the dish up or down a degree or 2 from 33.
Tighten everything down after you find and peak the signal.
Now you can use USALS to move to other satellites to see if you are tracking the arc sucessfully. Fine tune as you go.

On a scale of 1 to 10, finding them is pretty much an 8.
It ain't easy but you'll wonder why it was so tough once you do get locked in.

    Good luck

Ok Pmb I've gotten very close to 79W. I got a strong signal on the sat finder but no quality on the receiver. I tried just out of curiosity how I'd travel the sat arch and thought of seeing how 97W was since I read that it is a strong signal. I used Usals to move to 97w and played with the transponders and finally locked on with a Quality of 20-25. I tried a blind scan for fun and got two channels. I saved the info and tried to see if I could see the channels. However, everytime I clicked on the channel my motor would move to the reference spot or zero and I would naturally lose the signal. Why does that happen?

Well (I've read - never used a sat finder... ) that the sat finders sometimes block the signal thats supposed to get to the transceiver.

I'd suggest getting where you think you should be the take out the sat finder and use the cable directly from motor to receiver to try to zero in by using the recievers quality indicator.

As far as your dish moving back to center well you have a Viewsat Ultra - I don't know anything about that reciever or it's settings.
I can explain to you how you line the thing up physically but when it comes to reciever specifics - you are pretty much on your own.

    Rotating speed

    Rotating speed
I was setting up my Usals menu and it has Rotating speed. Is that for the speed of my motor?
