    DG2100 Azimuth limits

Hi. I have a SG2100 motor, 2 manual buttons on it and a 36" Fortec Star dish installed. I am using it for true FTA reception. Here is my problem:
Properly aligned, the western limit on my motor only goes to 119 and I can just get the NASA channel. I am looking for 123, 125 and western satellites. I know I can get these as I can get Galaxy 13 at 127 on my 4dtv C-band. Eastern limit is not a problem.

My 2100 manual says the limits are 75 deg, 75 deg. The casting says 70 deg. The manual and literature says that the 160 deg coverage is adjustable. Does the motor have to be dismantled to adjust this? If so, can anyone point me in the right direction for some instructions as to how to do this?

    Thanks in advance!

    you should get it.

The SG2100 info says it will go 70 degrees in both directions, so you should get to 20 degrees on both east and west.

Check to see if your receiver has set 119 as the western limit and de-activate it if you are using Diseqc 1.2 to move it. Can you use USALS (Diseqc 1.3)?

You can also, move the motor to 0, and then reset it. Follow the motor manual.

I've had problems with USALS in that it seems to have a mind of it's own! I understand that this may be a receiver issue.

The motor will only go 70 deg to either side in azimuth, which depends on your location. My southern most sat is Intelsat 707 at 53 deg west. Azimuth on that bird for me is 180 deg true. Azimuth (for me) for the bird at 123 west is 255, a difference of 75 degrees and my motor only specifies 70 deg each side of zero. I think there may be other models that specify 75 deg but not mine.

The manual says that this is adjustable, which makes sense as in order to get the full Clarke belt where ever on Earth you are, you would have to shift it. What you gain on the west, you would lose on the east. Some of the 2100's seem to have an external adustment, but not mine! I was wondering if anyone had opened their motor up and looked at the adjustments.

    Vitruvius,

I misquoted you on USALS problems and could not seem to edit afterwards! The reference to USALS problems is mine and not yours! Sorry about that, Chief!

All of the motors from DMSI marked SG2100 have not had adjustable hardware limits for years. The advertising just has never been updated.

If you open the motor you will find under the big plastic gear are some lugs in the casting that the gear limit switch bumps into. If your really ambicious you could grind these down but the gear itself doesn't have teeth all 360 degrees and to make it worse the firmware will most likely stop the motor also. The frimware counts Hall sensor clicks from a magnet mounted on the little electric drive motor.

Why don't you get a lnb holder from sadoun and another lnb with a switch and offset that lnb to the west by 5 degrees.

Thanks Satcom1! That gives me some ideas. I think I am going to have to work on the geometry some more in order to make this work!
