SG2100 reference point of "0" off by few degrees
So my three SG2100 arrived. All of them power up, move right and left and it communitcates with my C4K pro without any issues (the tests were conducted indoors, not on the roof yes ). The only problem is that only one of them was perfectly aligned to "0" for the reference, the other 2 were off by few degrees. It seems there is no way to fix it, other than opening SG2100 apart (bye bye warranty) and setting the reference point manualy, which I don't want to do. I've seen some posts on the web where people said the new motors from DMSI are like that and responses from DMSI were that in short "it is normal and it won't affect working of the motor including USALS". I'm just affraid that the motor will have arc messed-up when trying to catch far-east and far-west birds.
Does anybody had any problems when using SG2100 with messed-up reference point?
TIA

This will probably start another argument, but this is why I've posted several times that USALS won't work properly if the zero is off on these motors. MY SG2100 was off by a couple degrees, and rather than fool with USALS, I just switched to DiseqC1.2. You can fool USALS into working by entering adjusted longitudes and such though.
That being said, however, there is a possible solution, that might work, but I haven't tried it. And that is, with that motor, you can do a complete hardware reset, and what it says to do, is to first manually bump the motor back to where it is reading zero, then do the reset (the manual says to insert a thin rod into the reset hole for 2 seconds). It sounds like this should bring the thing back to where it was reading zero when the firmware thinks it is at zero, which should allow USALS to work fine. Since you haven't installed or programmed your motor yet, you could be the ideal person to test this. I think it should work.

Thanks for your reply. I could be wrong, but I don't think you can do that with the new SG2100 motors. You don't have the hole to perform the reset. Baiscally you have to hold both buttons together and turn your FTA on, this will reset the motor, however it won't set the motor to a new refernce point ;( Therefore I guess my only choice is to a use:
a) diseqc 1.2
b) void the warranty and readjust the reference point

I'm also a bit unclear about the different versions of this 2100 motor, ie the Digipower vs Motec thing. The motor I have came from Sadoun near the end of last summer, and it is a Digipower, and it DOES have the hardware reset hole. It comes with a manual that never mentions either Digipower OR Moteck. The Sadoun web page seems to emphasise that their version of the motor is different from other versions, but I don't have a clue about what the differences are. So I don't know if there is a version of Digpower or Moteck that has come out more recently than last fall, but MY 2100 does have the reset.

From what I understand DMSI is North American (OEM) distributor for Motec motors. I wish I had your motor (older revision), because that one I believe would allow me to set new "0" reference point

Look, our Digipower SG2100 motor IS produced by the "Moteck" company, but under a different brand called "Digipower". The other SG2100 motor sold by DMSI is IS produced by the "Moteck" company, but under a brand called "Moteck" (i.e. the same as the company name). Is that clear now?
Is kind of like GM producing two brands one is Chevy and the other is GMC. Both come from the same factory with two different badges and trims. One is called GMC 1500 and the ther is Cheverolet 1500. Got it....?
Our Digipower SG2100 has the reset button. See picture below:

.... If you are currently using USALS, try the following:
- Switch to DiSEQ1.2
- Try "Go to reference point" (zero) under DiSEQ mode. It should go to zero.
- Switch back to USALS.
- Try "Go to reference point" (zero) under USALS mode. It should reset to exactly zero.
This works on Fortec UT Lifetime, I'm not sure about CoolSat 4000, so good luck !
