Muliple dish setup vs motor drive

I was thinking that it might make more sense to install a 3 dish system with each dedicated to a specific satellite vs 1 dish with a rotator. Any input as to why it would be good or bad? My logic is the motor is about $150 and I since can add 2 more dishes for about the same cost but with a 3 dish setup you could switch satellites instantly rather than panning back and forth everytime with the motor setup. Aim dish 1 to Galaxy 10, dish 2 to Galaxy 3C and dish 3 to TeleStar 5 KU.

Please offer suggestions.

Thanks!

Well , the only disadvantage to that is you wont pick up all the possible satelites in the comfort of your own home. If you will watch only 3 sats, and calculated that the price is good.. then go for it.

Or even possibly 2 fixed dishes and one with a motor would be very deluxe????

If you have a motor dish, why do you need the other fixed dishes?
Once the h_h mount set up correctly, you will get all the viewable sats from your location. Then attach a circular lnbf next to the linear one, use a 0/12v or Diseqc to switch between them, you will never miss any feeds...:-)

I'm usung my 10' C-Band dish as my only reference and panning back and forth all the time get a little old. I expect the little dish will pan more quickly but small dishes are so cheap I thought adding another small fixed dish or 2 would make channel surfing more pleasurable for very little investment.

Sounds like nobody likes the sounds of it. But still, thanks for the input.

I did not know you have a c-band. Now, I understand why you want to add fixed dishes...:-)
Try to get the Primestar oval type dish. You can make it become "multi-sat" dish. One of my fixed Primestar dishes has 3 lnbfs on it for AMC1, T5 and G11. Works great. It takes a bit of time to find the "right" position for the lnbfs.

Yeah, Baby! That's what I wanted to hear. Cool biz, in fact I was looking on eBay for a Primstar because a remembered them being bigger ( 30"?). Is the oval Primstar different or are they all oval? Wheres a good place to find one? The 3 LNB mount is a standard item?

Thanks!

There are 2 type of Primestar dishes. Round and oval. Get the oval one since it's easier to mount lnbfs next the center one. I use old Starchoice lnbf which I got very cheap long time ago. Don't worry about the lnbf, they are cheap on ebay. Using any typical size of ku lnbf can get the signal from sats 4 degrees apart. Less than 4 degs, I have never tried since the size of the Starchoice lnbf is kind of big. You can find all stuff at HomeDepot to make bracket for mounting the lnbf. I am not a skillful guy. I can do it, you sure can do it as well. BUT it will take a bit of time to find the right position for the "side" lnbfs.
Check out the link below for more info of "multi-sat" dish:

Beleive it or not, I got all of my Primestar dishes for free. Drive arroud your neighbor. If you see any Primestar dish on the roof, knock the door and offer to take it down for free. That's how I got my Primestar dishes...:-)
Have fun
Michael
