SG-2100 Got It Installed - Kind of Sort of

I am definately impressed with this rotor, for the amount of money that it cost and also read a review which shows the 2100 to be not only cheaper but more robust than the stab mounts. I'm at 87 deg latitude so I choose to set up on AMC-3 which lies due south from me. Boy that is a very weak bird up here on my set up. It's even weaker than t-5. I was surprised using the meter how strong the DSS birds are compared with the "regular tv/data" birds. My quality is barely 40 % and I only am able to pick up the montana PBS feed and can't get a hit on any other transponders. I've programed T6 which is intersting. I'm glad to have fox fta network feed. I've got G3 and T5 in there as well. I'm trying to get Gxy 10R at 123 west but not having any luck yet. Anyone know how weak that one is?? I got a hit on DTV5 on a transponder and have been aiming west of that. I turn up the gain on the meter to get the weak signal. I have found a weaker signal to the west of DTV-5 but can't get a hit on 10R. I was thinking it may be Tel 13 but can't get a hit on that either. It seems to work best for me to tune a bird on the roof with the directional buttons and meters and then go in to the receiver and input transponders for various satellites in the neighborhood until I light one up in order to find out what Sat I am painting. The USLS recivers are looking good right about now but I am making progress. Unfortunately due to trees I am crossing my fingers that I can get 10R but don't think I can go any further. Beats the heck out of being stuck on T-5.

Re: SG-2100 Got It Installed - Kind of Sort of

G10R is a strong bird. If you set up the everything correctly, you should get it without any problem.
If the mount is not set up correctly, the further EAST/WEST the dish moves, the weaker signal you get (or not lock at all).
Some suggestion:
1. Make sure the skew is at 0 when the dish parks at truesouth sat.
2. Check out mount elevation = Lat. You are confused between Lat and Long. 87deg is your Long = your duesouth sat = AMC3
3. If elevation needs to be adjusted, only adjust the DISH elevation. Don't touch the SG2100 one.
4. Make sure the pole is perfectly vertical. Otherwise your dish will never tracks the arc correctly.

Question on the Skew

Thanks for your help Micheal. I believe when I had it set up on the Az-El mount I had to tweak the LNB and rotate it clockwise to about the 5 O'Clock position to get the best signal on T5. Now that it is set up on a modified polar mount do I need to rotate the LNB back to 12 O'Clock or some other value?? I believe the rotation of the LNB is known as skew or am I getting confused with another subject?? I'm getting sats from about 15 deg east
of AMC 3 and at least a few sats west of DTV-5. I think my True south setup is about right as I used AMC-3 which is right on my true south longitude. I have quite a few trees around so I think that's why I'm a little limited but this is still going to be much superior to a fixed az-el. I did replumb my pole. When I first put the motor on I was about a degree off and it did make a noticable difference as I didn't get nearly as many sats as I can now. Im running a smallear ST-7700 and am beginning to wish it had the goto X function. Still a little confusing to know which sat I'm pointed at so I'm using the process of elimination. Thanks for taking the time to "school" a newbie.

Yes , skew is LNB adjustment.

Re: Question on the Skew

Skew = tilt = lnbf rotation angle.
You have to set it at 12'00 o'clock when the dish aims at AMC3. "Goto X" or "USALS" is just a convienent funtion. Even with it, you still have to set the elevation for SG2100 and dish correctly. If everthing is off, USALS is useless...:-(
Beleive me, you can tune your dish perfectly withouth "goto X" or "USALS"
Let us know how things going.
