no signal,no automatic movement of SG2100
HELLO , I've got a max 2000 reciever, 33" single LNB dish with a SG2100 motor,,i can't get it alighned right,because i keep getting a NO SIGNAL message,,,
my motor power indicator says i am getting power to it, but when i select a channel on the remote, the dish doesn't move , I can move the dish manually with the remote, or manually with the button on the motor.
IS this the way it is suppose to work???
my location is : BATESVILLE ARKANSAS
ZIP CODE: 72501
:U.S.A.
E-MAI: linlucky17@aol.com tried posting before, musta not worked!!!

Probably not a lot of people have used that receiver before to accurate answer your question. It has probably to do with the receiver, do you know if it is Diseqc 1.3/USALS/Goto X compatible?

1.3 diseqc
i was told this is the top of the line reciever, some call it the enforcer , suposed to be better than fortec or pantec ultra.
check it out at SAVEANDREPLAY.COM

I see. Im sure its a great receiver, but due to my inexperience in digital receivers i havent heard of it. Just find out if it has the Diseqc 1.3 feature and that function should move your motor automatically.

I checked that link and I regret it. I question the legality of that site after reading how they describe these receivers.

HH MOTOR
well, i have to agree, the way they (SAVEANDREPLAY.COM)DESCRIBE the reciever is a little deceptive(borders close to all-out liing)but I'm still trying to get the motor and reciver hooked up to work together , the forum says i have to get the dish pointed in the right direction, THE HH people say that i need to find TRUE SOUTH,AND I might have to set the EAST-WEST LIMITS but no one has explained how to find the info on what i have to do to get true south, i thought i had done what i was told, but no luck yet, two other people came by they think it is right, but the reciever says no signal

OK lucky,
First off, don't worry about EAST-WEST limits unless your dish hits an object like a house when it rotates.
Second, read Sadoun's nicely-put HH motor installation on the website. Read it carefully and try to make clear to yourself what it says.
Third, setting up a motor is NOT a five minute job. It takes a while to see how it works.
Some theory.
Think of tv satellites as a huge arc or an inverse parabola in the sky. On that arc, are points where the satellites are positioned such as IA-5 and Galaxy 10R.
The HIGHEST point on that arc, is your TRUE SOUTH heading. Since the earths magnetic pole is offset, the compasses don't display headings accuratley in some areas of the earth. For example if you are in New York, the current Magnetic variation is +14 degrees. So if you are in NY right now and use a compass to point to north, that will be the magnetic north pole. If you add +14 degrees for the variation, the TRUE north pole will be 14 degrees on the compass, since a heading of 000 or 360, which is the same thing, is considered north. 000+14= 14.
What you want to find is your true south for your location. Stand next to your dish with a compass (not too close, closeness to things such as metals will make an inaccurate reading on the compass) and find where the needle points to South. Adjust your motor mount pointing that way for a rough estimate on where its going to point for true south. Then, goto sadouns installation article on fixed satellites, scroll down the page, and you will see a map of the us with magnetic variation corrections. You will either have to add or subtract to your compass south heading to get your true south heading.
Once you do this find the declination angle for the elevation adjustment on your dish. For this, look at sadoun's table in the hh motor installations. For sg2100 this is 30 - p , and p is the value that you should find according to your location on the table.

lucky:
That receiver has many problems with motor control -- any motor. I was reading about this on another forum. I would contact the vendor and see if there is a new firmware update available. Apparently the receiver moves the motor but does not store those positions into memory. Kinda sucks because no that is not how it is supposed to work.

ok,,,, let me start:
Batesville ark.
72501
LOCATION: 35.782614N
91.63519W
I zeroed in on magnetic south,,180 degree,,subtract 5 degrees,=175 degrees (TRUE SOUTH?) TIGHTENED BOLTS ON MOTOR.
Then ,the elevation ,,=35 degrees on the scales on side of dish,( minus 5 degree)(declination angle) ...
NOW , I go inside, turn the reciever(MAX 2000, DiSEqC1.2)try to pick up any sat and it says no signal,,
well i go to GALAXY10R , and the dish doesn't move , but the reciever says GALAXY10R ,,,NO SIGNAL
YES, I HAVE GONE TO THE MOTOR SET UP LINK YOU PROVIDED,
i think i set it up right , but I am not very sure about any of this , so i had two other people check it out , they came up the same way i did..

Some things you have a wrong.
Your dish elevation should be set to 24 degrees. (30-5.64)
Your magnetic variation is only about 2 degrees East. So point your dish to magnetic south, and move it just a SMALL amount to your left (if you are standing in back of the dish) This should be about where it is. REMEMBER that it is essential that the pole which your dish is on is LEVEL not just on one side of the pole but at least 2.
Tell me what kind of dish and lnb you have so we can tell you how to aim for your signal.
