SG2100 Help

Hello:

I have purchased a SG2100 motor recently. (already have a twinhan 1020a)

Installed the motor today on 24" dish with one LNB (linear).
took a while to find the first sat,
my Latitude is : 45.5
Longitude is: 73.6.
therefore I have used 72.0°W AMC 6 as my true south satellite. ( is this correct )
according to the charts the elevation angle is 45 and the declination angle is: 23.2 ( i tried my best to match those values)
starting from amc 6 and moving west I could scan the following:
(it took a while to get the hang of it , this is my first time trying to setup a dish)

amc 6
sbs6
amc5
amc 3
galaxy 11
galaxy 3c
amc 4
telstar 5
amc 2

I have not found any satellites to the east of amc 6. ( Is that expected)
I have noticed that the more I go west the harder it is to find the sats.
Could not find anything after amc 2 (did i do somthing wrong ?)

since SG2100 is limited by ~ 70 degrees (east and west) from position 0, is it possible to get the other sets 107w till 157 w ?

I think that I am already hooked to this hobby

Your help is very much appreciated,
stlllts

First off, I would use SBS 6 as you true south satellite. It is at 74W.

Technically, you should be able to pick up all satellites from 4W-144W. If you can only see satellites to the west, your dish/motor is not aligned properly (or your pole is not plumb). Check the manual for SM3D12 on Sadoun's webage. It has very nice troubleshooting guide iand what t do if you are not tracking the arc completely.

thanks vj9999 for your fast and accurate answer.
I will take a look at SM3D12's manual.
One question though, any reason why 74w is more preferable as my true south. ( I am completely new to this and have no clue)

Thanks

Why am I still up at 2:30

your longitude is 73.6W . SBS 6 is only 0.4 degrees away from your true south, AMC6 is 1.6 degrees. Either one will work, but SBS6 is your true(er) due south satellite

Yes. I haven't found anything of value east of AMC6, Echo 3 is there at 61.5 but I don't think there is any FTA on that bird.
What did you find on PAS9?

You've done remarkebly well with using just a 24" dish. I have 31" dish and often I just hover above the "lock" signal indicator on a few transponders...

I also have trouble west of 110deg as a neighbor a couple doors down has a HUGE tree that blocks Satmex5 and Galaxy 10R for me
Finding a compromise spot on a city lot can be a challenge.

You won't miss anything on Pas9. 99% of SkyMexico channels are encrypted, few promo/preview channels are FTA. If your lnbf is universal, you can pick up Cubavision and few testing slates.

Thanks Michael.
more questions (if I may ask)

My reception to most of the birds i can recieve is acceptable except telstar 5 (is that expected ?)

I currently have linear lnb and think about adding a circular lnb to the same dish (with the motor). Is that possible (ex: using a Flexi-Block with both linear and circular on each side)
Do i need to adjust the elevation or declination angles if I add the Flexi-Block ?

I am sorry for too many questions. I am very exited about this and I am still in very early learning phase.

1. If the mount tracks the arc correctly, you will get all sats on the arc viewabel in your location.
2. Adding a circular lnbf is not difficult at all. I use plastic cable ties. Make sure you put the switch between the lnbf and the motor. Sadoun has pictures somewhere on his site showing a motorized 1.2m dish with 2 lnbfs.

Thanks again Michael .
I got the other LNB, fixed it to the right side of the linear LNB. very easy and works perfect. (used a spacelab diseqc switch between the motor and the 2 LNBs)

Wondering if I can add another LNB (ex: a C band LNB to the other side of the linear one ). I still have to figure out why telstar 5 signal is very weak.

Forget about C-band, Ku dish is way small for Cband signal.
