Bad Motor??? HH90

I have been trouble shooting my HH90 motor. I had it working but suddenly it has stoped only after getting it to work a few times...

Through troubleshooting it I have
1. checked all connections are tightly fitted / crimped new connetors to make sure
2. reflashed the reciever to Fortec's newest firmware
3. replaced the cable going to the motor
4 removed motor and took inside next to reciever, attached a 6" cable from reciever to motor (checked cable and 0 ohm loss on bolth + & -) tried to "Go to reference" with Uslas and 1.2 settings, tried drive/nudge east/west with 1.2.I have also tried setting up lat and long with uslas and tried "Move"....no movement, noise or anything
5. attached the same 6" cable to my pc dvb card and tried moving positions (drive east/west with mytheatre positioner consoule)... no movement, noise or anything

I am using this motor with a fortec lifetime ultra reciever, a 80 cm dish and a KU LNBF ("M-1 Motorized lifetime ULTRA blind search choice set" from Sadoun)

Through trouble shooting I have concluded that I have a bad motor.

I only purchased it a few days ago so I dont think returning it would be a problem.

Please instruct me as to returning procedures and perhaps an upgrade to a more durable model. I have read on these forums and the most popular seems to be the HH100.

What is the diffrence between the HH90 and the HH100?

Thanks

Nice troubleshooting job...
I had to unplug my receiver from the wall when my motor "quit" for no apparent reason when I was trying to get USALS and Diseqc 1.2 working at the same time. Seems as though the Ultra got confused. Once I power reset everything it worked again.

Did you try power reset of box? (although 2nd driver using computer card almost assures this as a motor problem)

Did you attempt to read the control voltages on the RG-6 cable going to the motor? (I'd hack a short piece of cable up to get the wires exposed for testing purposes, and solder some jumpers out to the meter).

I think the reason the HH100 is popular is it's been around for a while. The HH90 was just released a few weeks ago.
I'm ready to order another system (786V3) with a motor, but it will be 90cm dish and I was going to get the HH90 motor. If the HH100 motor is "more stout" and "less troublesome", maybe I should consider that one.

Comments anyone?

Disclaimer to others reading - please note that doing the above may permanently ruin your receiver if you short the RG-6 wires together in an attempt to do the above. I have no idea if the Fortec boxes can stand to have their signal wires shorted out or not. Cyberdemon seems technically adept at this, while others might not and I don't want to see someone have some suggestions ruin their stuff

Yes I have tried power cycling the receiver several times from varying lapses of time.

I never thought of checking the power level going to the motor. I thought that the power levels varied from 12-18 volts DC depending on horizontal or vertical… Please correct me if I am wrong.

I went ahead and tested it and I am getting about 14 volts DC from the receiver and 18 volts DC from my Pc DVB card.

Thanks again for your help.

One more thing to try before you give up all hope. Go into the Ultra's "Antenna Setup" option and for any satellite select "1.2" for the "Positioner Setting" option. Then go into the 1.2 submenu and select "Limits Disable" then OK. Hopefully at this point, the motor will now move when you nudge it in the 1.2 submenu, and you'll find it'll move normally with USALS again, as well. Good luck.

Tried the limits disable some time ago and no luck then. But just to make sure I tried it again and still no movement.

Just to update. I have moved the dish to a bird although the motor does not move and found that the motor will "relay" a signal when it is pointed to a bird. I thought that maybe a signal might kick start the thing. I then tried all of the steps listed in this post after getting signal and still have no movement.

I'd expect the data signal to pass OK no matter if the motor moves or not.

I remember reading (but cannot seem to find now via Google search) a paper that described how the motor gets it's control signal and moves....

In any event, you say it's under warrenty so you have that option to have an expert test / verify its condition and replace if necessary.

How did you make out with this?
Did a motor swap fix your problem?

I'm having exact same problem on new install of a HH90 motor...

Yes I had to return it to sadoun. They were quite fast in replacing it too and the new motor works perfectly.
