you mean KBS World?
on IA 5?
If so - that channel is scrambled....
(in the future - it would help if you mention transponder and PID data though...)

I was referring to KBS America on G-10R that was mentioned in Sadoun's original post. Lyngsat says that it's FTA. However, I remember someone posting that it is now scrambled.

I was about to cast my vote for TAN . . . until I turned on my TV this afternoon and discovered that TAN1, TAN2, and TAN3 had all gone to black screens. Apparently, today (March 30) TAN went to scrambled signals.
Fearing this might someday happen, I actually e-mailed TAN a month or so ago, asking about getting a TAN smart card (even though I’d have to replace my near-new Fortec Star Lifetime Ultra with one that’s smart-card capable) but, of course, they never answered . . .
If anybody knows how to get TAN’s attention about this, please let me know – I’m still interested.
Also, although many internet sources continue to show them as being FTA, KBS America and KBS World are scrambled, too – and, as far as I know, they have been for a long, long time.
This leaves ImaginAsian (on G10R) as the only source I know of for at least a handful of English-subtitled Korean dramas. If anyone knows of anything else out there, please let me know!

End of non-religous Korean FTA TV signals
Well,
It's a sad day in Korean FTA TV broadcasts. All we have now on TV are a bunch of religous channels and 2 Korean radio stations.

TAN...
At least for this moment, the three channels of TAN on AMC4 appear to be unscrambled again. Right now I'm watching a historical drama on TAN/SBS.

For entertainment I would vote for Korean Central TV from Pyongyang FTA in Ku Band in NA. This channel is FTA on C-Band on Thaicom-3. :mozilla_wink:

Well, maybe I jumped the gun a bit on this . . . the three TAN's (on AMC 4)were all black screens the entire day of March 30, and they were still showing black when I checked again the next morning.
Right after that, though, I took off for a weekend trip, and, when I got home last night and checked TAN again (April 4) they were back on again (?).
Looks like we've earned another reprieve. Be happy for small favors, I guess.
By the way, I was a long-time watcher of KXLA when I lived in Los Angeles, and their evening programming is mostly from KBS. If it's still available free-to-air via satellite, it's well worth considering - assuming you're set up to receive "C" band (currently, I'm not).

Well according to Lyngsat, KXLA (on G11) can be received by a Ku dish. So I will try to point it there tonight.

Where did you see that? It is listed as a C-band channel. Frequency is 4075H and that is a C-band frequency.

Looks like the mystery of March 30 has been solved. Tonight (April 10) TAN ran this bulletin (in English!).
“Recently, TAN conducted a test in the use of an encoded, or ‘scrambled’ signal, to comply with broadcast standards. A small number of viewers using PROSAT receivers had difficulty seeing TAN programming during the test . . . We will soon be transmitting the scrambled signal permanently. Please contact TAN immediately to arrange for the exchange of your PROSAT receiver.”
So, I guess the end is nearly here for TAN’s free-to-air programming. :mozilla_cry:

Just out of curiosity, has anyone actually called TANTV to see how much they want per month? If it is reasonable, I may just subscribe.

I recently called them myself. TAN costs $27.50 monthly, plus a one-time $25 charge for the required smart card. This fee covers all three TAN channels (TAN-1, TAN-2, and TAN-3).
TAN also offers a satellite receiver (PANSAT) for $75, but I passed on that for now, doubtful that it has all the features I'm interested in. But you do need a receiver with a smart card slot.
Subscribing is tough, since getting a hold of anyone at TAN who speaks English is a sometimes thing (I kept getting their answering machine, with the recorded message in Korean).
But, if you're interested, just keep trying until you get a live person, and then ask for "David." He speaks good English, and he can answer your questions or sign you up. The phone number is 323-465-1100.
