811 rcvr ISO the right dish...
I have a Dish Network 811 dish rcver and I am with out a Dish. What are my limitations? What are my requirements?I have a couple dishes I have available to me. A Superdish...missing a LNB (she says) that was sent back to DN. I am not sure about the other one. Can I use a Dish 500 and recieve HD? Will the Dish 500 limit me in getting any of the channels or Satellites?

You don't have to replace whole Dish, just broken LNB

Sorry for the wrong info, I just saw that most HD channels are coming from 110 sats, that means, you CAN use Dish500 for HD. Have you heard about their "Dish mover" service? They say, you can leave the dish at your old place, and they will install new one. Not sure, is it free or not. It was free for me, because at that time I referred my father to Dish Network, and got a discount and "Dish mover" service. On my next move, I put my own dish myself at my new place.

Dishes of all sorts are also available on E-Bay, complete with LNB and all. That is a good option if the DishMover does not work out to be cheaper or free.

Dishnetwork HD channels are on 129 or 61.5 I do not think 110 has any HD channels if not locals.
You still have other problem which is the receiver. 811 can not give you all HD channels. You might get 3-4 HD channles only. You need VIP 211/411/or VIP622.

Actually there are HD channels on 110, but they are not locals. ESPN, TNT, HBO etc.

Aother thing would be if I need a switch. I have only one receiver. I know that the 811 is capable of receiving more than 3 or 4 HD channels. Thanks for the info.

Are you still a Current subscriber to the old Dishnetwork HD package?

I inherited an HD box and subscription that is the americas everything package from an apartment complex that had a few dishes. I have the 811 box in a residence w/o a dish. I just want to make sure that I can pull all of the channels that are available to me from the correct dish.

Be aware that Dish 811 receiver is an MPEG2 receiver. Some of the new VOOM HDTV channels are in MPEG4. Those you will not be able to receive with your current receiver. You will need a VIP622 or VIP211 receiver to be able to receive bot the MPEG2 and MPEG4 channels.

What happened was Voom went out of business.
Dish bought what was left of Voom distribution, and is sending (similar) stuff and calling it their own.
So, in order to pickup Dish's version (of what used to be Voom) signals, you'll need an MPEG4 type capable receiver.
So if you want the most of Dish's HD lineup, get the later version of their box.
