What channels and programming are you trying to receive? If it ain't FTA then it is hacking and against forum rules.

101 110 and 119 are sats used by the subscription services and people get nervous when you are trying to get channels from them there are some fta on 110 nasa i think the others are just info channels. that is why you were asked to what type of channels you were trying to receive if you are looking for true fta you will need at least a 30" dish and a linear lnbf.

I agree with the other responses, but taking you at your word that you're looking for FTA signals, if you just plug into the DTV coax like you said, you will generally be connected only to the 101 sat. While the 101 sat can be locked with some other FTA receivers, the Starbox will not work with it. So to get FTA with the Starbox, you need to tell the DTV switches to switch to the 110/119 sats. You do this by turning on the 22KHz setting on your Starbox.
Once you've done this, you should have access to both the 119 and 110 sats, however, again, with the Starbox, you won't be able to tune the DTV sats, but you can tune the Dishnet sats. As Rainman said, there are a couple FTA signals there. I think that NASA is FTA on 119,
see { EchoStar 7 at 119.0°W - LyngSat } and GOL is FTA on 110, ie
{ EchoStar 8 at 110.0°W - LyngSat } . Check Lyngsat for the transponder freqs.

I talked a bit more about using the 22khz thing in another thread a while back, ie:

the problem with smaller dishes is they will not pull in sats that are linear which is where most of your fta channels are, check sadoun for fta systems has some great package deals.

Old dish network dish is not adequate for receiving FTA programming. Your receiver is not an issue here. Your dish is. If you fant to receive FTA programming fro sats like IA5 and others, look into getting at least a 31" dish.

This has nothing to do with Directv so I am moving it an appropriate FTA forum.

As far as your statement regarding integrity of posters, majority of us here are honest people. Every now and then we get a surge of dishonest people, but we moderators here try our hardest to weed them out.
