Connect Cable and Satellite to one outlet.

Hi

I just set up my sat, but the wiring is temporary (just to see if I get signal from that location).

On the wall I have one cable outlet. Should I add another outlet on the wall for the satellite cable? Can I add the satellite signal to my local cable and internet provider without interference and loss of signal and use the one existing wall outlet? If so, how and what equipment do I need.

By the way, all the wires come in from the garage and the wiring of the house goes through the attic, so access is not a problem.

Regards
Demetris

  1. Your satellite receiver sends about 18v dc to your dish
  2. Your cable tv is bringing some voltage to your tv
What I will advice is connect your cable tv to your receiver through the TV ant IN and

Generally this is the best way to ensure no signal loss, however you could use a pair of diplexers to combine the cable TV with the satellite signal. I've had "iffy" experience when using diplexers with cable internet so I wouold hook it up and try it first. What you do is use one diplexer at one end of the existing in-wall coax and the second diplexer at the other end. A diplexer combines the satellite signal from the dish along with the cable TV signal onto one coax; then "splits" them out at the other end of the coax.
