still at it!

okay, first off let me say thanks to rainman and wejones and who ever else lent a hand. a wealth of info. heres where i am--- i have 9 satellites perfectly lined up and even though there is play in the motor messing it up, 70% of the time it will move to the location fine. i have been at this for over 2 weeks. it seems everything is fine. my signal strength is great on all of the sats i get and it seems to be tracking the arc well. so how come i cant get all the sats i am supposed to for this area? i have spent countless hours outside scanning back and forth with that slow ass receiver. only to come up empty. what would cause this? is it heard of? i can get amc5 (by the way i cannot fully tune kuen slc in well at all. other channels are fine. ever heard of that?) but then i cant get amc6? seems i have followed all standard protocol for this situation. what am i doing wrong? come on you guys are smart! please help this newbie who loves fta. i want my dish to be sweet. thanks

How far is AMC6 from your true south sat? How far west can you see? Have you checked your mast to see if it is plumb after installing the motor and dish assembly? If you are seeing the same amount west as east from center and using USALS my guess would be either not perfectly aligned on center (true south) or motor and dish elevation settings are off.

Try this. Go to the farthest east sat you can see and gently push up on the dish. Now pull down. Does either direction increase signal strength? Do the same on the west. If you get opposite results you are not aligned on true south. Move the entire assembly in the direction that caused a raise in signal when pushing up. Go back to center and repeak the dish using dish elevation. Now what do you have? If the results are the same (increase in signal when pushing up on both ends) work with your dish elevation and motor elevation. Raise dish 1 degree and lower motor 1 degree. Now what have you got?
