OK I am going over to another direction here. You keep hitting circular sats. Unhook all switches and run a line from a L port of the lnbf to the motor and one from the motor to the receiver. Now point the dish as close as you think to true south. Setup your lat and long in the receiver and tell the receiver to go to your true south sat. Now work with east west adjustment in an attempt to find signal. Once you find signal strong enough to scan do a blind scan and see where you actually are. Mark the pole and adjust accordingly. In other words if you are east of 87 move the assembly west a bit and repeak using dish elevation.

Until you are lined up on true south most everything else is just "treading water". Spending a lot of time but not getting anywhere. Be sure your receiver is set for none on DiSEqC port (although that really does not matter) and you are set for 10750 or standard for lnbf type.

One other approach, since there seems to be no problem finding NIMIQ (I'm still not sure how this sat was identified)....
Perhaps, as a way to get close, why not send the dish to NIMIQ using USALS to start with, then peak on that sat. This should get you pretty close so you can then go back and find AMC3, and start over. I've done this at times.

Wejones: I think that might just do the trick. I will give it a try and report back. I think that I'm only 3* off, or so I hope.

Fooey, I think I read that wrong. :-(

I particularly watch a lot of programming on their schedule 511, and I was afraid of losing that. It's nice to see that they plan to convert those to DVB.
Anyway, thanks for the link! That's good news. I still expect there will be a few channels that I'll be able to use my 2 DCII receivers on though, but it's really more convenient for me to use DVB, so this is an improvement.
I went back and re-read what they were saying on that web page Iceberg posted (and is now being displayed on the DCII channels). I was happy that the web page said that schedule 511,512 and 513 were switching to DVB, which I just assumed to mean that they would stay in the same place as DVB, however the way I read it now, it sounds like apparently they are planning to move them to their service on AMC1-C-20. I'm starting to fear that even though these are switching to DVB, that they will be in 8PSK mode that we can't get with regular FTA receivers. So I guess the wait continues, and we probably won't find out for sure until the switch is made.

I'll miss this schedule if it does go to a mode we can't receive.

EDIT: NEVER MIND I just re-read it a third time, and it DOES look like schedule 511 will be staying on AMC3 in regular QPSK. :-) so I'm happy again. But I"ll still be nervous until the switch takes place.

Since you are at 82-12, either Nimiq2 at 82 or AMC9 at 83 would work fine, assuming that you have a linear LNBF. You can use either the HughesNet transponders on AMC9, or the 12224 transponder on Nimiq for alignment, even though the Nimiq sat is circular. Ie your south sat is the one closest to your longitude.
