When trying to find your true south satellite with a compass, missalignment is a sure thing. Magnetic forces from the dish, pole, and other metal objects will distort your readings. What was 180 degrees is now 165 or 236. The closer to your setup you get, the farther off your readings go. Below is a small program that allows you to locate ANY satellite in your view and lock onto it, without the use of a compass.
I used sun too last time, and only inconvenicnce is that you have to be at the dish at certain time (usually around noon).
Before I used compass (with small dish and standing behind and away from it),
and even Google Earth (with meridian grid on, I could see the line connecting my site and objects at the neighbourhood, such as gables, street curves, etc.).
