Installation - Phase II

Well, my system is up and running... We accomplished what many said couldn't be done up here in the sticks..

It reallly is amazing that it works at all (see attached pic)... But although I found my way through the trees, I will never find my way through the hillside... I get all sats from AMC6 to AMC1 with no prob... AFter that, Im into the hillside (FTA Dish is located where the old DSS dish is in the right side of this pic taken this past summer)....

So, behind the house on top of the hill, it is super clear..No trees and a clear site to all sats.. The prob? Probably 350-400 ft run will be necessary (Right now, there is ~ 200 ft of RG-6 on it and it works well although if I am reading everything correctly, It shouldn't !!!!)...

So what do I do to make all of this work and get the dish moved to the top of the hill where I'll be done with my hillside and tree prob. Amps? RG-11? Hardline???? Maybe keep the dish where it is and put a stationary dish on the hill aimed at G10R???

Where there's a will there's a way!

Wow Bibbler, that's vicious !!!

If I pulled up in your driveway to install your dish I would say "Sorry Sir, there's no way to get a shot here" and haul ass outta there...

Congrats on getting signal. I would keep the dish where it is and put a stationary dish on the hill for G10R. I would not want to power a motor through 400 feet of coax. Use RG6 for the stationary dish and forget the amps - they suck. I've run upwards of 800 feet of RG6 and amazingly enough had some signal left at the other end...

Thanks BobKat..

Thanks...!!!

That's what I was thinking too.. Just aim one at G10 on the hill and go with the mororized dish down below where it's at...

Do you think there would be a lot of benefit of using RG-11 as in - - - ->

Would it make a big difference?

RG11 is expensive. But yes it would improve signal by quite a good margin. I would try with RG6 first. Plus its a PIA trying to find connectors for RG11.

Nice place Al. Personally I would use the 11 from the start. I have a couple 175'+ runs and really wish I would have just bit the bullet and ran the higher grade cable. Will most likely replace my runs next year with RG11. Benefit I have is I buried PVC and ranthe coax through it so pulling cable beats redigging

I bought a TV antenna a couple years ago (yet to be installed) from an online TV vendor, and bought a 150 foot length of RG-11 at the same time. THey put the ends on for free.

So if you want to go with RG-11, just buy it from someplace that will put the ends on before they ship it to you.
