Just an update on my 4 port
diseqc switch.
I've mentioned this switch from time to time in past posts. I bought this a couple years ago to replace a 2 port switch (which still works fine), when I had a need to add a couple additional lnbfs. However, I mentioned that it came out of the box with one dead port (#3), then after a couple months port #4 died, then a couple months later I could no longer switch between ports #1 and #2, so I took the switch out, and it has been sitting on my desk since. Well several weeks ago, I decided to try this switch again, and to my amazement, it WORKED, and not only did it work, but it worked with my
Twinhan, which notoriously has problems with Diseqc switches.
Well, I've been using the switch daily for the last few weeks. Then, 2 or 3 days ago, I found that I wasn't able to tune in a channel I listen to, which was on port#2. I bypassed the switch, and it came in fine. After listening to the program I wanted to tune in, I put the switch back into the system and experimented. What I found, was that I still couldn't tune in this channel. HOWEVER, I found that I COULD tune channels of the opposite polarity on this LNBF. Ie the switch was working, but the switch apparently was cutting the DC voltage enough that it wasn't allowing the LNBF to select the 18V polarity. I checked the voltage coming out of the switch, without the LNBF connected, and it was barely 18V, and I'm guessing that this drops once the LNBF is attached. WEIRD.
Well, I've had this switch in and out of the circuit for the last 3 days, but it still comes up dead on the 18V polarity. However this morning I tried another experiment. I switched the port#2 lnbf over to port#4, and sure enough it works over there. Weirder. Basically, this 4 port switch just has a mind of it's own. I should just buy a new one, and be done with the problems, but I almost find it entertaining wondering what it is going to do next.
