How is it possible..
To determine if the reciever has gone bad...
I put up my system in July and could only get 4 sats (I have lots and lots of trees).. So I put everything away in the garage and waited till now to see what all I would get (with all the leaves off, then I could get the chainsaw out)...
I hooked it all back up, reaimed, and ....nothing.... Nothing at all... tried to aim manually (without rotor), and nothing.. not even a singal jumping to 12 or 13.....
While I was playing, I plugged the coax into the receiver with the receiver on (I know, stupid).... So I figured I might have killed the LNB, .. I ordered and received a new one today from Sadoun, and again Nothing.....
Could the receiver be bad or could it be something else. Coax or could it be the dish???????
STUMPED and ready to quit.. (of course, not really)

I doubt that you hurt anything plugging the coax in while the receiver was on, unless it was shorted. I've changed coaxes many hundreds of times without a problem. Certainly wouldn't hurt the LNB. Only thing you'd hurt would be the receiver. If you have a voltmeter, check the connection where you connect the coax. If you see voltage, you're probably OK.
It's probably just that you aren't aimed right, or perhaps the feeds you saw before aren't there anymore or something. Keep trying.

Al:
Check the obvious stuff first (cable, connectors, etc.). I accidentally "let the smoke out" of my receiver once; was trying to hook my "DC-to-light" all mode receiver to the Aux rcvr port on the back of the set-top box for fun and although I had "checked" to see if there was DC present, I hadn't stuck the meter probe far enough into the F connector and....a wee wisp of smoke came out (probably a current limiting resistor). Since everything still works, I just moved on.
As Bill suggests, double check to see that there is 12-18 volts across the LNB connector on the back of your receiver (and make sure you don't do a half-@$$ed job like I did)!

Welllll....it's actually only 100 kHz to 1.3 GHz, but still...
It's a neat little handheld unit I picked up when I was in New Zealand many years ago...covers USB, LSB, CW, AM, wide FM, and narrow FM. Such things are pretty common now, but it was quite the thing when I bought it.

Unfortunate that you're missing the upper end of the 950-1450 IF from the lnbs. I used to be able to find a few SCPC signals direct from the LNB, although I'm guessing that those are all gone now. But you can still pick up the beacon signals right around 950 and 1450. I've been using an Icom-R7000 for years, which off the shelf does 25-2000, however it skips 1000-1025 (since that is done via an internal converter), plus I bought a 100MHz converter, which shifts 0-25 up to 100-125, so I have virtually ZERO-2000, although still missing the 1000-1025. The 7000 does all the modes.
About 5 years ago, I picked up a Yaesu VR5000, which does 100KHz-2400MHz. This one is missing cellular, but does the 1000-1025 band.
Anyway, it sounds like your rig does AC, not DC, since you stop at 100KHz. :-)
I know there isn't much between DC and 100KHz, but I've seen signals there. With my converter, if I tune my 7000 down close to 100 on the baseband output of my analog receiver, I used to sometimes hear things within 100KHz of zero, then when I go below 100, I hear a mirror of what I heard above 100. I also used that part of the spectrum once to listen to subcarriers on broadcast FM stations, using the multiplex output of another receiver I have.

Yep, good old SCA on FM ( although there may not be much of that left at 67 or 92 Khz) I look at FTA as the "SCA" of TV.
Makes me feel good that I can see stuff that 99% of my neighbors can't or won't tune in!

I absolutely love this concept. When I have visitors and they ask what is this or that for and how many channels and ...
