Starting Point ??

I finally had some time to spend on my new hobby and got the mast installed. I used 2&1/4" fence pipe set 32" in the ground with 3- 80 lb bags of cement mixed and pored to hold it in place. At the present I only have the motor mounted and it’s about 5' above ground.
I’ll have to run the cable about 90' underground to get to the house and part of will have to go under a stone road. That section will be ran through conduct.
Before I mount the dish would someone be kind enough to check my calculations and let me know if this is correct for a starting point to find sat 74w. I know I’ll have to fine the dish to get the best signal once I find 74w.

Motor set on 0 for true south----180 + 14 = 194 compass reading
Motor elevation set on the elevation side = 40.5

Dish elevation set on the dish scale = 23.7

Your motor elevation is set on the latitude side to match latitude or on elevation side which would be 90-latitude. In your case 49.5. Did not look up dish elevation but you should be in the ball park with 23/24.

Thank you for the reply Elgemcdlf but I’m still a little confused. Should my motor setting on the latitude scale for a starting point be 40.5 or 49.5?

One side of your motor mount has a latitude scale and the other side has an elevation scale. So, on the latitude side it will match your latitude which should put you at the 49.5 on the elevation side of the motor mount. Best bet is to just pay attention to the LATITUDE side of your motor mount.
