Can see some sats but not all

I have been being helped here with this installation, and thanks to this forum, I watched the sun all day this past Monday knowing it was following very close to the needed arc of view and selected a spot for my dish.

I set a 2 3/8 galvanized fence post in about 22" - 24" of concrete and it is perfectly level and plumb all around the post and on the top.

I aimed at what I thought to be true south but was seeing IA5, so, I backed up a few degrees and tried IA5 and needed minimal adjustment for 70% signal. There is no separate on screen meter for quality, but, the bar changed color like it has for all the rest of the sats.

Most of the sats I have tried to view have been right on. A couple though, I had to change from USALS to DiSEqc and bump the dish left or right one to two bumps of the button.

However, some sats just have ZERO signal, 99 being one of them. Lyngsat shows it as Galaxy 16, but, my receiver shows it as G4 I think. But, I cannot figure out why it is not hitting some of the sats but, is hitting many others. The farthest east I have tried is PAS 9 and it hit right on.

The ones I have are: IA5, G10, AMC4 & 5, IA13, G11, G3 & PAS9.

Have tried AMC 1 & 3 with the range of 13% - 26% by bumping it two to three bumps east or west depending upon which one I am trying. I have also tried pulling up and down on the dish to peak the ones above that I do have, and the AMC's when I have hit the 13-26% range.

Anything else to try? Thanks.

You should not have to "bump" the adjustment if the dish is aligned properly. USALS will take the dish to the correct location for the sat. If the sat is not there then the adjustment is off. If I am not mistaken you are sweeping from 58 to 129 with 97 being your center. What language channels are you looking for? You may not need any more of the arc.

Can see some sat

I had the same situation with my system. Amc 1, Amc 4 and Amc 3 where for the longest hard for me to get a signal. It doesn't take much to throw your system off track. Check your true south make sure is right on. next move your dish west to G-10R and move your motor , slowly, west/East. See if this makes a difference on your signal. Lock it in and them move it East to Hispsat at 30 W and do the same thing.

Once you have done this you should be able to track the Arc without to many problems. About AMC 1 like rainman said, do not mess with it until you have your system working properly. I have a second lnb on my system just for that Bird.

I'm guessing that my true south is off. I bought what i thought was a really good compass at the sporting goods dept. at Wal-Mart, (just like the one in my Avitar) but, it may not be as good as i think. When I thought I had the true south, just a hairs turn of the motor (at ZERO) brought me to IA 5. With my longitude at 90.11 I tried G 11 and found 5 live video channels. 3 that say occasional with RFD-TV and 1 other. I am afraid to adjust the motor and dish elevation too much for fear of knocking out what I already have.

I really only want English, but, my son likes Spanish, and I want to be able to scan and have fun with this dish too.

Some sats but not all

Your true south should be pretty close to your longuitude. I am at 80.05 and I'm using AMC 5 as my true south. It works for me.

You should be aiming for either 89 or 91 as your south sat. Do not worry about losing signal. Once you have found it write down your settings. Now everything from there is equal. If you move the dish up a degree you lower the motor a degree. If you happen to lose everything you can always revert back to the settings you wrote down.

Okay. Looks like I am going to have to ADD 89 to my STB because I cannot find it in the list. Well, you learn something new everyday!

I'll post my results.

You should go through this list and check the sats for channels. If a sat has available channels for DVB FTA you should have that sat in your list. If not then by all means add
