Please help_ I am going nuts with this installation

Hi,

I try to setup the fta to see IA5. My equipment are as follows:

1. 31cm fortec digital dish
2. KUL2 LNBF
3. Mercury II receiver
The install is fixed mast, ie. no motorized.

I am at zip code 21701, latitude 39.4N longitude 77.4 W, Dish elevation set at 40 and aim at Azimuth 220.

I can not get any signal strength at all with these settings. My questions are:

1. What is the proper selection for KUL2 in the installation menu for LNB type?
2. How can I physically measure the dish elevation to verify the setting. I read somewhere that the scale on these dish may be off and Just want to verify.
3. What TP should be used for alignment for IA5.
4. Although the LNBF is dual, I only use one port and it is hook up to the Digital In coaxial port, is this correct?

Please help as I have been with this for a week now with no avail. LNB power is on.

I know the receiver is working because I can pick up other satellite signals although all "scrambled".

TIA

Thanks.

your settings look close the lnb you have is standard set it 10750.you may have to move your dish east or west a little to get signal. check www.lyngsat.com for active transponder i get a strong reading on tele 5 channel so use this transponder don't forget to skew your lnb to 22.2 degrees.mark your pole and mount so you will know how far you have moved your dish east or west.do this to you get your best signal then adjust your elevation up or down by 1 degree at a time to get best signal.remember it takes paitence very small and slow movements are required 1/16 of a inch in movement can loose signal.

Thank you for your help and reply, the suggestion with the LNB type definitely help a lot. I also had to add about 4 degrees in elevation for my setup to catch IA5. Thank to this forum, I was able to get this going after hours and hours of frustration. Now that I know at least the hardware is working and align, I will try to install a HH90 tomorrow and realign the system.

Regards,

congrats and enjoy your system.just remember the motor mutilplies the difficulty by 10.just be patience and make small slow movements and you will do just fine.

Thank you for your consideration. I got the HH90 motorized system to work but only can get about 80-85% signal and quality is roughly 60%. I used AMC 6 which is at 79 W (i am at 77.4W) to adjust the "true south" azimuth instead of a compass. Can you suggest some ideas for getting the signal and quality up? I have a clear view of the southern sky from the mounting location (no trees at all). I guessed at the zero point for the LNB skew (eyeball using the bracket and aim at the dish center), is there a better way to make sure the LNBF is at actual zero skewed at the mount?.

Thank you for your continuing support.

when at your true south sat the lnb ports should point at the ground if its a L shaped lnb. may need to fine tune a little for best quality up down east west. just remember to mark everything before you start so you can go back if you loose signal.

Well that doesn't surprise me! Why don't you purchase a Sat finder? When it comes to tweaking your signal, even the entry level meter is a big help.
