Is it SAFE?
Hi everyone,
Just found out how to post a new thread. Too old for this :-((((((
Currently I have a 76cm dish, 2 single LNBF aimed at T5 and AMC4, DISEQC switch and Satcruiser Plus. At the back of the receiver, there is a port for another receiver. Is it SAFE to have 2 receivers? What happens if i have the same channel on these 2 receivers? Too much power goes to the LNBF and switch?
Thanks for your help.

They would not put that "Loop Through" port for another receiver, if it had any danger. If you watch same channel on both of them or even different channels from the same transponder, it's OK, but if you want your "slave" receiver to get ALL the channels, then you need to turn the first receiver off.
First - "master" receiver has a control to eliminate any voltage changes, initiated by the second one.

THe prevailing opinion is that if you use the passthrough port, that you should use a DC-block between the 2 receivers. I have several receivers chained through the pass thru's and have DC blocks between each, and the DC-block doesn't attenuate the signal any observable amount, but it does add safety against the potential of the DC-power from the receivers interacting with each other and possibly damaging one of the receivers.
EDIT: Oh, and perhaps this is obvious, but only the first receiver in the chain can control the polarity, again related to the DC-power thing, so the 2nd receiver will be stuck with watching only channels of the same polarity as the first receiver.

It is safe as long as you use a feedhorn cover. Always practice safe sat reception please

Not sure about the DC blocker but feedhorn covers are usually available at drug stores...

DC blocks can be found at Radio Shack. I think they have them on clearance now (grabbed all my local store had)
