NewBie with some questions

Hi there,

I am new to FTA and planning to buy M1 system at Sadoun. I going thru the installation and various posts on this forum and have following questions;

1) I am in Memphis 38103 and my true south is 180. What whould be my true south sat ... btyw how do you find which sat would be closest. (I might sound dumb to ya all but am really new bie)

2) My second question is regarding a a particular channel, ZEE TV at lyngsat its shows that it is available on INtelSat805 and says DVB. I assume I wud be able to watch that channle with M1 system (ku) I came across a post on this forum saying that its available on C band? How wud I know from lyngsat list if a channel is available on C band of Ku band.

Would appreciate your help ... more questions as they pop up!

BTW great job and this is a wonderful forum for FTA!

keep it up.

Zeus

Welcome Zeus,.IA-8 should be your true south satellite.I'm around 100 miles north of you and that's what I use.As far as I-805 it is cband and you can tell by 4 digits for cband freq.and 5 for ku.

welcome Zeus. also remember if you want to receive c band you will need at least a 6' dish or larger.

Sats are listed by the longitude of their location. Your true south sat is the sat at your longitude. If there is no sat at that location you use the nearest sat to that location. Is your reading of 180 compensating for magnetic deviation?

As stated in an earlier response the tp freq's listed at lyngsat are either 4 digit or 5. 4 is C Band and 5 is Ku. Example:

4140V23570 is a tp freq of 4140, it is vertical in polarity and the sr is 23570 This would be a C Band tp.

12170H5156 is a tp freq of 12170, it is horizontal in polarity and the sr is 5156. This would be a Ku tp.

I have only seen sr's that are 4 or 5 digit and they have no bearing (as far as I can tell) on the band. The tp freq designates band.

While you are at lyngsat you are looking for DVB and F. You will also find entries for DCII and VCII. This is not viewable by the receiver in M1

Also Zee TV has an outstanding picture!

I know this was just a typo, but I think you meant longitude above, not latitude. :-)

It all kinda depends on what you want the C Band dish for. If you plan on using it coupled with a 4DTV receiver the lnbf that Rainman lists will not be compatable with the receiver. If you are only using the dish for DVB MPEG2 signal the lnbf will be fine. I paid $39.95 plus tax and shipping. Was an introductory price but believe they are only $49.95 regular price.

If you plan on 4DTV then you will need to go with a conventional feedhorn and lnbs. You most likely will not build the combo for both C and Ku for under $100.00. Think more like $300.00 if you are buying all new and of decent quality. I will add that the Motorola 922 will do lnbf's just not the one Rainman lists which is the only one I know of that does but C and Ku (circular and linear) with a built in DiSeqC switch.

The DiSeqC is not the problem. It can be routed around with the original listed. Has to do with operating range. Am not familiar with the lnbf you speak of here but will check it out.

Thanks all again for information. Now here is a system that I think will buy keepin gin mind that I would like to get INtelSat 805.

- Fortec Star 6' Prime Focus 6-panel solid Satellite Dish
- Fortec Star Lifetime CLASSIC NA FTA Digital satellite receiver
- bsc-621 LNB

I hope this should work.

I have one question cause I saw one post by VJ here or satellite guyz forum regarding receiving C-Band transmission using 120cm dish. Is this feasible to do this and use a smaller dish specially for IntelSat 805 (as many ppl here have such a setup and check for me ).

Thanks

~Zeus

I can't get Zee on I805, but I can scan in about 24 transponders on there. The Signal Quality is anywhere from 40-60% on most transponders it scanned in with couple of them as strong as 90%.

I'm Watching MTV Argentina right now on I805 on Viacom mux (comming in at 78% signal strength and 59% signal quality).
