I have a new
installation that is giving me wierd LNB signal strength It appears that the LNB is intermittent. It gets a good signal for maybe 60 seconds, them cuts out. It is a Dish Pro Plus Dual with internal switching.
I tried both IRD outputs and it is the same.
Verified it with a bare bones signal meter right at the dish, it starts with a strong seven signal to begin with but drops to zero on the meter while trying to line up the dish. It is not from dish alignment, with no movement the signal drops to zero. I can line up the dish if I keep my patience. Once it is finally set in position with about a 7 or better signal, with hands off the cables and dish and while I am watching, the signal drops to zero.
Comes back after a couple of minutes, than drops off again. Checked connections and replaced the cable and the same thing continues. There is nothing else that it can be but the LNB at this point.
Just to verify the signal meter is right, the problem also repeats on the Sat receiver. I get an 80% signal on the receiver for maybe 60-90 seconds and then it cuts out and drops below 20% signal strength and I lose the picture. After a minute or two, it comes back up to 80%-85% but drops back down to 20% in the same 90 seconds. Cycles intermittently between a great picture and a "bad signal" message. I brought the Sat receiver and my portable TV out to the dish and used a 3 foot new patch cable and the problem was the same. Nothing in the line of sight of the dish.
Is this a common LNB fault with the Dish Pro Plus LNBs? I was extremely careful to have the Sat receiver unplugged while connecting and disconecting.
Thanks in advance for any info.
