billo,
setting up a motor can be tricky.
The procedure is this:
1) have the motor move to "0" or reference point (exactly center).
2) find our south heading, add/subtract to get your actual compass setting. Walk away from your dish, about 50 feet. Put a stick in the ground at that spot, using that heading. Go back to your dish, and point it at the stick. Go to stick, and line up by eye your LNB dish's arm to be pointing right at you. THis is important setting, ask if you need more help.
Set your motor bracket to the setting specified above posting. Lock that down, and leave it there.
3) have a small TV and the receiver with you out near the dish. Now, find AMC3 on the lists, and put in your LONG/LAT into the receiver settings.
Have the motor drive to AMC3. (It wont move much).
4) adjust receiver to active transponder. If you have already seen channels (ie:
PBS) then you know what to look for.
Adjust the hole motor side to side, and the dish elevation a bit till you lock in on the PBS sats.
Now tighten things up.
Now drive the motor to
IA5 and see if you are getting singnals. You should be on the arc, or very close to it. Tweak if necessary. Even pulling the dish with 1 finger down or up a bit will tell you if settings need to be tweaked, look for increase in quality signal level as you adjust things.
Good luck. Report back results.
