Hard to get IA5

My setup is as follows:
Fortec Star classic NA receiver
36" Fortec Star dish
Lava 0.3 Ku LNBF
My location: 41.18 N 74.47W
SBS6 is my true south satellite

I have had some success in tuning in the following sats in "the arc" AMC3, Galaxy 11, IA6, AMC1, and AMC15. I am really having a hard time getting a lock on IA5. I know that this is the satellite that I need to be on for all of the good FTA programming on there. My installation is plumb and true, no obstructions. I know that a person needs to find an active transponder but the ones that I manually scan don't seem to provide results. Any information on getting IA5 set would be helpful. Thanks.

Smile Re

OK Guys, yesterday I got a lock on IA5. All I needed to do was move the dish mount down the tree trunk about 3 feet. This enabled me to "clear" the tree branches at about 15'. The dish being where it was had it's incoming angle blocked. Cutting the branches might be difficult. Anyway, thanks for all your help. On my Fortec N/A it only has one indicator bar, not seperates for signal/quality. Some transponders I only get 22-36% but it is LOCKED and the signal is consistent. Just wanted to know what bird has the most english language channels on it? If anyone knows, let me know. C-Band is not a possibility at this time, maybe later.

Thanks Guys. Love the fact that I am getting IA5 but there is really nothing that appeals to me programming wise. G10R has a low angle at my side (21.6) so I don't know if that will clear obstructions or not. Until I get the motor, I have to rely on fixed mounts. Just wanted to know if there is a mount that can be levelled for uneven ground as that might be another way to go to place the dish in the yard. Any suggestions accepted, thanks.

Sink a pole in concrete and mount the dish to it.

with an offset dish, the angle is actually 22 degrees higher than you think.

21 degrees isn't that bad. I can get Hispasat 1C which is only 10 degrees elevation in MN.

Re

Thanks all, BTW has anyone found an FTA box that can be controlled over the Internet? It would be cool to set up a project that would give a person the ability to control an FTA box remotely and transmit the video/audio back over the internet to a PC. Then you could enjoy your FTA system anywhere!

Should be doable with a Twinhan card for the pc. At the moment I can not say as to programming thought process but would most likely be a out from the video card to in of a video card (do not remember the card required) from there maybe utilize Real Video for the net feed. Now it is just a matter of hacking some code out giving you control over the software that runs the card

A fixed ip would be best on the pc sending the video. Your largest problem I see is security.
