Yoyr help is needed Please !!! Coolsat - Ivacom Stab
This problem has me stumped. I am new to all of this and need help.
Equipment
CoolSat 6000
Stab HH90
Fortec Dish
Invacom QPH-031 LNB
Location
66 W - 18.5 N
I am having problems with this setup. The dish was set up to Stab instructions at 18 deg and a 41.5 deg dish tilt. South has been set up my magnetic compass and sun position observations.
I have no been able to locate any satellites except one noted below which for me seem very strange.
This is what I have found after 4 days on the roof with sunscreen and no beer!!
Only 110 W Echostar has any response LNB set Lin 10.750 13 v and ONLY at 12.774 Ghz no other channel freqency works.
I get red on the Coolsat levels - 70-80 % Quality < 10 % They never go green ecept at 12.774. whic has a very string signal and high quality.
A sample channel is VPID 4130 APID 4131 PPID 4130 TP 12.774 V 20.000
The 9 TV channels that I got from the set up shown above are all San Juan Puerto Rico TV stations which happens to be my location as well.
I don't understand what is going on and how can I only get these sets and no others.
Are there problems with the LNB?
How can I test this problem?
I have by passed the switch and have a very simple configuration
LNB ( either C or L outputs ) --> STAB -->> CoolSat
This problem has me stumped. I am new to all of this and need help.
Thank you for reading and I hope you have some help

Your lnb should be set to a standard with LO settings of 9750 for low and 10750 for high. If you only have one setting for LO set to 10750. Your coax should be connected to one of the L ports on the LNBF. To simplify things eliminate all switches and connect the L side of the LNBF to the motor and from there to the receiver.
If you are getting something at 110 and nothing else you most likely are close in dish alignment but off a bit. The Echo sats are strong signal wise so it is quite easy to find signal there with nothing anywhere else. You are at 66 so with your motor set at 0 let the receiver drive the dish to Amazonas at 61 utilizing USALS. Now peak for signal. You should be able to draw some channels once you have signal peaked in.
It is my recommendation you only operate with the Linear side of the LNBF for alignment as the circular sats are strong signal. If you have proper alignment with the linear side your circular side will be there. Ok back to Amazonas. Now have the receiver move to another sat and check for signal. Work your way around the arc adjusting little by little as you go. Use the USALS feature as this will line up on the sat so if it is not there your adjustment is off.
Hope that helps.
Steve

Thanks for your quick reply. Coolsat 6000 does not have Amazonas at 61 W.
I tried to program it without too much success. I did however try what you suggested with adjacent Sat
72,0°W - Nahuel 1 198.318 ° 67.352 °
70,0°W - Brasilsat B1 192.387 ° 67.937 °
65,0°W - Brasilsat B2 176.725 ° 68.379 °
63,0°W - Estrela do Sul 1 170.465 ° 68.132 °
61,5°W - EchoStar 3 165.894 ° 67.793 °
I couldn't find anything there either.
I am also wondering if I can get TP 12.574 on 110 W EchoStar 6,8 why can I not get the other Tp 12224 - 12661 to lock with a strong signal. If I cannot lock on other TPs on the same sat don't I have a fundamental problem?
Lost on the roof .... please help

I don't know about LNB, but for receiver, I can say, you can add a stellite from satellite menu, there are empty entries at the bottom of satellite list.
Or you can adjust Echostar 3 from 61.5 to 61.0 in Motorized settings menu.
Then change LNB type in Dish Settings menu to match yours.

Thanks boroda1
I'll try that
I see that you have a Coolsat 5000
Can you tell how many TP (Tp 12224 - 12661) go green at 110 W EchoStar 6,8
I can only get TP 12.574 to lock with a strong signal.

11880 V
11894 V
12.370 V
12.597V
11.793 H
12.389 H
are showing green. They could be my local spotbeams, as 12.574 is yours.
Also, my LNB is not Invacom, it is just a linear one, and I am not able to watch anything on this sat. I just set it up in my receiver, performed blind scan, and will disable it again. Maybe later, I will attach a circular LNB aside (with rubber bands ) and check it out.
Anyway, I think, if you see one tp, the others should be somewhere close

Yes I think that 12.574 is a local spot beam for San Juan PR ..
You said -->> Anyway, I think, if you see one tp, the others should be somewhere close
I don't have a feel for what close means ..I have been at this for a few days now gently rocking azmuith and elev and don't have any idea what I should do next.
I haven't found any other tp that go green on any of the other sat selections.
If the local spot beam is very much stronger than the other signals, what does this mean ....the LNB is bad.?

Everyone at certain point starts to believe the LNB is bad...
Most of time it's not true.
I would start everything from a clean slate, and would set up as close to instructions as possible:
San Juan PR is about 18.43 N 66.05 W, Magnetic deviation is about 13, you need to add this to 180 to find true south = 193. Is it the same, you have?
Try to be precise, when pointing motor and dish to true south.
Then go with USALS to find a signal from the south-most satellite, which for your location is Estrela at 63W with only one transponder shown on lyngsat, 11959 V 4340, linear LNB. I would do a blind scan, because it may be old information. If nothing is alive on Estrela, try E*3 at 61.5W with circular LNB.
Good luck!

Thank you for your quick reply ...Tried Echo 3 as you suggested without much success ..
Would a bigger Dish be the answer?
Prehaps a 39 "
am I too far south for good signals?
Some thoughts as I sit on the roof ...... drinking beer ...Wow is it ever hot ... ( no not the beer )
Help ..... lost !!!

No, ppl on North need a bigger dish, but they have a smaller angle between satellites. Closer to equator, closer to sats, and angle is slightly wider.
My roof is black asphalt shingles, sitting on it during the day time is problematic... feeling like a fish on a frying pan. Boiled beer, anyone?

Go back and follow what I originally posted to you on this subject. Continueing to play with 110 will gain you nothing except a sat you can not see anything on. It is easiest to start with peaking the center or near center of your arc. You are almost at the end of your west travel out there at 110. If you do not have an entry for Amazonas line up on Echo3 and set an Amazonas tp that is live. Now find signal. If you can not find signal keep trying until you do.
Once you have this you can start to work with your arc and get it all dialed in. Get your arc setup and tracking properly utilizing linear sats. Once you have this all of your circular sats will be there.

Thanks for the reply .....well back on the roof !!
I went back to echo 3 and max the signal on a satellite finder SF10 S
Managed to get Green Bars on one TP on the Coolsat Display ..
The signal seems very weak to me .. the slightest movement of the dish or mount and the signal is off.
Lost postion and now cannot find it again -- Yukkk
It seem to me that I this is like trying to tread a needle while balanced on a tightrope in a high wind.

Don't trust too much satellite finder. I tried to use it for "fine tuning", after which I spent 2 hours, bringing things back! However, it maybe good for E* sats, they have strong signal. As everybody on this forum is suggesting, get a small TV and receiver with you on the roof. I got used 5" B/W TV for $15 and will use it next time.

I've already got a small tv with me up on the roof.
The problem I seem to have is that I cannot seem to lock on the TP's on E* 3
Coolsat > 90 % signal; but no quality and no lock.
I was using the Sat Finder as a peak detector to find max signal.
I find postioning the dish very sensative ..and my signals seem very low .....
wow ...this is very frustrating ........ never thought that things would be so sensitive. or my signals are low for some other reason .....

Sounds good so far. Remember you are looking for a live tp on Amazonas not Echo 3. You are just using the Echo 3 location as it is only a half degree away from Amazonas and you can find Amazonas signal in that location. It will be a bit weak but should be able to get a lock.
You are 100% correct. 1/8" movement can cause a loss of signal. These digital Ku signals are narrow and very sensitive. You found it once now find it again. At that time do not so much worry about scanning for any channel as long as you have a lock. Snug everything down and try letting the receiver move the dish to another sat. Maybe Hispasat1c/1d at 30 degrees. It has a bunch of channels on it. See if you have signal there. If not see a post named Arc Adjustment. If you do can you scan for any channels. If so you have at least roughly half the arc tracking so the shape should be somewhat correct. Now it would be mainly fine adjustment east to west to fine tune it all in.
You are so close. I can see it in the info you post. Patience is the key to success along with a very slow and gentle hand when it comes to adjustment.

Thank you for your help, encouragement and persistance - found Amazonas and it is a very strong signal. much stronger than anything that I have located thus far and I was able able to get a lock.
At least now I am getting a sense of this and you were correct - the 110 W is on the arc . Now to see how I can get some stronger signals
Thanks again

That is great! Once you have the arc comlpetely set up you should have a bunch of channels on a bunch of satellites. www.lyngsat.com has a listing of sats viewable by you and the channels on them.
You should be able to view from roughly 6 degrees to 126. Have fun and enjoy the new toy

We are getting there. however I still feel that the signals are very low
A question on the Dish FC80 31"
focus lenght in spec 492 MM
I measure 584 MM from the center of the dish to the the front of the LNB
which would make the focal point seriously off
Any Ideas ?
