Another Newbie Question

S.C.

Dish: FC80CM

LNBF: Invacom SNH-031

Receiver: Pansat 2700A

No Motor

I have been successful finding AMC3, however I do not receive all Transponders. Is this due to my dish size? Would a larger dish receive more transponders? Some transponders seem to have reduced signal strength, some at 99%, others in the 40-50% range, some in the range of 10-20%.

Hello Mossg,

I had the same problem few weeks ago, the ones you see weak signal for, in the 10% to 20 % where others were in the 91% range. The TPs listed as Digicipher2 I think a special Digicipher reciever is needed to aqiure the signal. The TPs are 14 18 19 23 show as Digicypher2. And there are some that are not Digicipher and i was not locking signal on them such as TP# 12164 H SR 4340, possibley a weak Tp? but what about 12164 H and 12110H?

sagirma is right you will not be able to receive dc 11 signals with out a 4dtv receiver. make sure it has a dvb by the transponder this is the one you will be able to receive.

Thanks

Hi Sagirma & Rainman

Thanks for both of your replies. You’re correct the missing TP’s are digicipher2. Sagirma to answer your question, I do have lock on 12164H and 12110H. However when I did a blind search 12164H did not appear, so I manually entered it. Rainman will a 4dtv receiver also receive MPEG2, and DVB signals?

The receiver Rainman refers to is the Motorola DSR922. There is also a DSR920 but it is being phased out of service here in the US and a DSR921 built for Canada. They are MPEG2 receivers along with analog and a whole host of other goodies built in. They are NOT DVB receivers though so while they will read MPEG2 streams of data they do not read the DVB MPEG2 streams.

It is a big dish receiver as it's heart lies with C band. The cheapest I have seen a new unit for is $650.00 plus the module.

That is true. They are known as Megapipe or Combo. While you can purchase a receiver to see them the receiver is designed for only one channel at a time. Major resetting of everything to view a different channel. Another issue that comes into play is encryption. You will not (at least to my knowledge) get a commercial receiver authorized.

So as an example on M5 (SatMex5) there is a listing for Galavision. It is Megapipe and while lyngsat lists it as clear it is actually encrypted. So after you fork out the money for the receiver and get it all dialed in on the tp you can not view as nobody will authorize the receiver. Just an example I have got some word from people in Mexico that say it can be seen with a commercial receiver and actually gave me the specific receiver to use. I have not found one yet (used) under $2500.00.

I did get a manuall lock on 12164 H and 12110H but got about 25% on 12164 and around 55% on 12110 and not really anything to see. I was hoping to pickup the PBS channel ,but no cigar.

With my receiver, the signal is good (shows 90% quality) for PBS Montana on 12164H and for PBS channels on 12110H the signal is good too, but audio is AC3, without decoder, can't hear a thing

PBS is there just touchy. If the dish is not correct you will not get video.
